first off the speaker quality will be horrible, you will be buying a cheaper, lower quality monitor,

for heatsink, it doesnt matter what 120mm fan you want to use

surge protector: I would just buy the cheapest one possible unless you need some kind of special need..

cases: if you want a ricer thermaltake case, go ahead and buy it, if you want a cool, quiet, professional looking case, go check out the Antec P182 and the Lian Li's

as long as the case supports ATX motherboards, your motherboard will work, most support it

Ok. This may be a noob question, but what does ricer case mean? Does it have to do wit it being flashier? That case also attracted me because how everything seemed to have it's own place and was like an easy install. I'll look through the cases you suggest and see if they have any similar design.

Honestly, I'd get the 32Bit XP with 4gbs of ram. Yes, XP will not be able to read all of it, but that is really all you'll need. 64 bit generally has problems with certain programs, meaning it isn't AS compatible as 32 bit is. Over time, that will change, but for the moment, 32 bit is the way to go.

As for a monitor, you really don't want to get the cheap ones. Mainly because they are all LCD screens. And LCD's are a bitch.

Samsung
Mitsubishi
LG

are all good monitor companies. Basically anything you can recognize as selling something other than monitors is a good company =P. A decent 20 inch will cost about 250 dollars. If you're looking for a gaming monitor, pick one with a 2ms refresh rate (so no ghosting occurs, where images blur because they move too fast for the monitor to handle). Look for a decent color:contrast ratio. Anything above 2000:1 is decent =]

As for speakers, I just have it hooked up to my stereo (my cd/dvd player) entertainment system. I have no separate computer speakers and I saved money that way.
As for cases, just make sure you read noise level reviews. Because there's nothing worse than a case that sounds like your great grandmother snoring herself through the night.

I don't get why the 64 bit vs 32 bit thing. It is confusing. If they just mean the operating system why not just say XP and Vista? Also wouldn't saying "64bit Vista" and "XP 32bit" be redundant? Well maybe not for the 32 bit cause I guess could be like "98 32bit" "ME 32bit", etc. If I'm understanding it correctly.

Ok.. I think this monitor will be nice.
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824001095

these seem like good enough speakers for me.. I don't really care about surround sound or that stuff. Just want to be able to hear . http://www.newegg.co...N82E16836121127

along with the 2ms response is a 6bit panel which results in lower color quality, but its worth it for the extra speed 1we8.gif I know I definitely wouldnt go away from samsung for computer LCD's. I own a Samsung 204bw 20" myself and a 19" Dell 1905FP (which uses a samsung panel) smile.gif Like I said, I would wait for the Samsung 226CW to be available everywhere and then buy that

One thing about the Antec cases, they are all Mid tower. I'd be afraid of not having enough room ya know and doesn't everything being more cramped heat things up more.. Wish they made like a full tower. Do yall think Mid tower will be enough?

The monitor looks nice. I actually have a friend running that exact one and he loves it.

Operating Systems come in two different architectures. It's built around how they process things. Like I said before, 1011 1001 is an 8 bit number. It all has to do with assembly language, how the computer talks and etc. Computers do things only with 0's and 1's. All a computer can do is add and subtract. These programmers we have on Codex use programming software like Basic and C to compile normal everyday human language into assembly language (which is binary numbers 10010101010010101001010101 like that =P).

XP can be purchased either 32bit or 64bit, as can Vista. I just like 32 bit better because it's more compatible.

Speakers shouldn't matter =P But Logitech is a good brand =]

As long as it can fit the motherboard, it should be sufficient. I have a mid case right now. Has 4 drive bays and 7 floppy bays. Can fit two HUMONGOUS graphics cards in an SLI mode, along with a PCI network adapter.

Mid Case should be sufficient for what you need. When they say full tower, they mean FULL tower lol. It'll be huge =P

Ok.. with the Antec, people are saying they are having trouble with graphic card space and saying they are using that graphics card I'm going to get.. How do I know what case has a big enough spot?

Pretty much just guess and check, there really is no way. See how big the card is and see how long the case is. People that do Newegg reviews are completely idiotic, most of them don't even have the product they are posting about (for instance, I remember someone saying the had 4 Kentsfield Quad cores when there is only one type of Intel that supports multiple processors).

Trouble just means it took them an extra minute to put it in. Some cases are easier to work with than others. It's really hard to tell. But 95% of the time with Antec or Thermaltake, you'll be okay =]

ok.. Just decided on the Antec P182 case..

As for the OS, Is this the one yall think I should get?
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16837116193
Does it have the office 2003 things like excel, powerpoint, etc, cause I want a OS with that. Also since I'm just building this, this will be the first and only OS on the system so not a upgrade.

alright one more question. What does having two graphics cards do opposed to having one. Like if I got two MSI 8800GTXs, what would be the difference then getting one? Or would there be a difference using 32 bit XP?

That speaker selection is very stupid IMO, but do what you want, and I hope you only ordered one GTX since you cant run 2 GTX's on that motherboard.

Also that fan, you HAVE to be kidding me, /suicide

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE buy on that fan, just terrible, I am just amazed

Also, WHY did you buy that retail XP? 200 dollars? WHAT?!?!?!??!?!

You can get an OEM copy of XP for 65 dollars. Which is XP but just for custom built computers.

The RAM is cheap =] Which is awesome. 4GB of ram for <120 = OMG I love you lol. I just don't know how long it'll last (heatspreader is kinda eh) but it has lasted my friend about 6 months =]

The PSU I really don't know, it's Corsair so it should be quality, though you could've gone a bit cheaper with another good brand =P

As for the graphics card well I can't complain =P It will run ANYTHING out on the market =P

Hard Drives is where you made your mistake =/ 2 TB of memory. Christ lol. And why the most expensive ones =P

CD/DVD Drive. Alright could've gotten cheaper (20 bucks)

Heatsink & Fan blink.gif You just spent 100 dollars to run air through your machine =P

Surge Protector is fine.

Speakers are fine (Fatal is a sound whore)

OS could've been gotten for 40% of the price.

Keyboard and Mouse (not bad =P)

Monitor = EXCELLENT =]

Case = ehhhhh. PSU on the bottom looks like you're going to have fun running cables to all the stuff you're powering. Basically, hope you have a lot of twisty ties =P

? wacko.gif pretty much everything I got, I asked yall about. I asked if that would be the right OS to get and you said "I suppose". I asked about the Scythe S-FLEX fan and you said it different matter. AS for the hard drive, that's the kind fatal recommended. I also asked about cases ( I have edited my posts so some of it is gone)..

I just did it a couple of hours ago. I'll just cancel my order. This was probably a bad idea. rawr_.gif

Ok.. changes from the last time.. The Processor.. Same one Fatal suggested I believe. The hard drives are about the same speed as the ones Fatal suggested I think. I just got 1.5 TB space. Same mouse and keyboard I picked out before. Oh I tried to look for a mother board that matched the one Fatal suggested and I think that may be it. Got power supply by Thermaltake and it's 850 watts. I know fatal doesn't like the sound stuff, but it's cool with me. And Fatal already said that the dual video cards would be better than the one he suggested. Plus, I wouldn't have to worry about building the computer. It came atached to Vista premium home, but I changed it to XP. Like yall said, XP porbably won't pick up on all the 4GB memory, but if I upgrade to vista once it becomes more stable, I'll have the memory already. With shipping and handling this group will be 2,572.00

QUOTE

File Transfer cable: CP TECHNOLOGIES CP-U2N-02 USB2.0 Network / File Transfer Cable ($17)

The price of this with shipping would be 347.22

For a grand total of 2919.22 The one I would have had to build myself was 2,756.95. So it's like they are charging $162.27 to build, which at this point I think is ok. I'm just gonna leave these windows up until I get opinions from you guys. If you see anything (other than the sound and speakers) on the computer ^^ that isn't good, let me know and I can give the other options they have. Oh yeah and if you see anything I missed or didn't include please let me know.. thanks smile.gif

heh I'll let bryan deal with this, thats not the same motherboard, the ram is much worse, and upgrading to Vista wont make it detect 4gb, its being 32bit that makes it not detect, you need a 64bit OS for 4gb.

where can you get a 20$ SATA 20X burner? P35 boards only have 1 IDE slot so you could use IDE but it would make it that much sloppier and you wouldnt be able to hook up any IDE hard drives or anything. The 1 IDE controller it does have is an addon controller, and I know on my gigabyte board, that adds on about 20 seconds to boot time because I have to watch this screen where it detects all of the devices

motherboard, the only thing you could of done is go for a P5K regular, and then you lose features such as wifi, crossfire, etc. Gigabyte still doesnt know how to make motherboards so you need to stick with eVGA(if you want SLI), ASUS, or possibly DFI for boards.

Heatsink: for 20-25$ you could of boughten an arctic freezer 7 pro, that wouldnt be too much worse than an Ultra 120, and its 90000x easier to install.

PSU: Sure, you could of gone for cheaper, such as a OCZ 600w StealthXStream, but I built the whole thing based on it being THE BEST computer possible, I could of made a much smarter build if that was the goal, but that wasnt the goal

-Fatal smile.gif

EDIT:

Similar performance for cheaper:

heh I'll let bryan deal with this, thats not the same motherboard, the ram is much worse, and upgrading to Vista wont make it detect 4gb, its being 32bit that makes it not detect, you need a 64bit OS for 4gb.
where can you get a 20$ SATA 20X burner?

EDIT:
Similar performance for cheaper:

MEMORY: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)4GB (4x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Dual Channel Memory (($30 off Mail-in Rebate) Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory w/ Heat Spreader <-- How about that for memory? You say that it isn't the same motherboard, but it is still good right? If it isn't would the (Quad-Core FSB1333) EVGA nForce 680i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard() or the (Quad-Core FSB1333) Asus P5W-DH I975X CrossFire Chipset LGA775 Supports Core 2 Duo CPU FSB1333 DDR2/800 Mainboard w/GbLAN,USB2.0,IEEE1394,&7.1Audio() be better?

I also switched my main hard drive (which was 1TB (500GBx2) SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD) to 74GB Gaming Western Digital Rapter 10,000RPM SATA150 16MB Cache WD740ADFD . It's less to have to worry about backing up in case I have a OS problem, plus it's faster.
Data hard drive now 1TB (500GBx2) SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM Hard Drive . That's where all my downloads and stuff will go.

I also changed both graphics cards to EVGA Superclocked Powered by NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 16X PCI Express.. whatever that means lookaround.gif

Oh.. Do a power protector and a power surge serve the same purpose? Just one fancier, or are they completely different? They look different.
