Okay so it seems the administration has a bit more work than they can handle at the moment. And I feel like we have members in our community both capable and eager to help the administrators. However, promoting someone to administrator is not a task to be taken lightly obviously. The position requires leadership, trustworthiness, and programming capabilities are always a plus. So here's my suggestion:

Promote me!

No jk. How about we have elected temporary administrators. This temporary administrator could be nominated by votes from private members. Then the staff could select from the top three or four nominations, an administrator that would run for a term of 4 weeks.

This way, if staff doesn't like this new administrator or feels they are under-qualified, they will be demoted in 4 weeks. If however they are good, they will be elected for another term.

With a staff revamp about to come, I just wanted to throw this idea out there.
- It would promote incentive definitely to behave and achieve higher ranks.
- It would help the administration obviously.
- It would be fun!

Opinions?

Wow.. interesting idea. tongue.gif The only thing though is that a four week term isn't really that long and there's a bunch of training that needs to be had with being an administrator. I'll think about it some more and post some more thoughts later. tongue.gif

The main problem I can see with that is that people may not have the experience, to help them with what actually needs doing. It definitely sounds interesting though, something which may work out with proper planning n all.

ME!

Jokes aside, you can't just have "temporary" administrators... it just doesn't workout the way you have planned. The administrators as a whole can choose someone with those qualities you listed, as well as a few more and +1 to the Administrators group, but you just can't have temporary ones.

While the intent is good, I don't think temporarily elected admin-ship sounds like a good ide...global mod maybe, but admin...no =/

I don't think the concept will work in the end, but somehow, the idea is great and maybe can be modified to adapt something more sensible =)

Although I don't like the Temp Admin idea, I DO think that there should be a Moderator intern program....

then you can see who is doing good in what, and maybe we can actually have mods/smods that know how to do their job.

I agree with this intern idea.

4 weeks isn't long enough to tell properly, but any longer means it'll take ages to get through members.

The mod version sounds much better.

The whole mod intern idea is good too and I was thinking of applying my idea to other positions as well. But I don't think moderators are THAT much of an issue.

I mean, it's not like we're ever short on moderators, are we? And if they're not performing to the best of their abilities they can easily be replaced. But replacing/promoting/demoting administrators seems like a much larger concern to me.

But they never get fired! Slinky has said that they were going to revamp the staff for a while now. Guess how much has happened?! Guess how long I've been bitching about it?! Yeah, see. There ya go, it won't happen, this idea wont happen, Dudeonline's good idea wont happen, hell- Nothing is going to happen.

Welcome to Neocodex.

I don't wish to start a war with you here, but I want to ask, why do you come to codex? It genuinly seems to me like you only come here to piss yourself off.
If it's as bad as you say in almost all of your posts, why do you stick around?
I'm not trying to imply you should leave, I'm just asking.

wow man. Shadow said earlier that he is just waiting for finals to get over. Things are very hectic for students right now. You can't blame him or any of the admin for having a life. They have, today at least, let us know that stuff is going on. The only thing we can do is wait.

Seems like an interesting idea smile.gif. I like the temp mod idea as well but perhaps with a little ironing out of the bugs, the admin one could work too...

And as for nothing happening, that is largely my fault since I've been so busy with school. When school isn't in session then I'm free to do whatever tongue.gif

Why? Because I have friends here, is that a foreign concept to you? tongue.gif Just because I dislike a few people does not mean I'll leave. I want Codex to improve, which is why I'm vocal about it.

I'm not here to piss myself off, I'm here to talk with friends or cause problems for those people who I dislike. There you go- I confessed! Not like it matters. Private is becoming a joke like Joe said, Retired you have to be around forever for (Oh, and be a good ass-kisser/have enough retired friends), I'll never be a moderator because I cause problems, so I'm kinda stuck. So I can basically do whatever I feel like, rule abiding of course (Occasionally crossing the line), without fearing any repercussions. That is why I whine and bitch so much, along with creating E-drama- I've got nothing better to do. There is no incentive for me to not act like an asshole or cause a few problems. I've essentially hit a plateau.

Woah, I got sidetracked there. In an attempt to explain why I keep coming back I explained why I act like I do. Whatever, that can clear things up somewhere else.

I keep coming back because Neocodex is a good community that I like to visit. Its the first place I go every time I get online. I normally stop in two-three times a day and read nearly every thread (Unless its drug talk- yuck). I like Codex, I care about Codex, I visit Codex. What else do you want to know? blink.gif

I made that post because the staff is always promising or saying something will be done, and rarely it happens in a timely matter. I guess I'm just being a bit pessimistic about this whole thing, aren't I?

Hey so...I know this might sound a little weird and random but I really like you dude ... for some reason or the other ... I'm not really sure ... I mean that you are really cool.

And I didn't post this because of what you said about codex. Though I feel the same way, I like you because you have guts. You aren't just a yes man and actually say what is on your mind and don't sugar coat things. That's really cool of you.

See, Hawk that straightforwardness is great and all, but with that pessimistic attitude nothing will ever get done sad.gif
Unfortunately, our admins have social lives outside of codex too tongue.gif They take their time, but they get shit done too. Eventually.

When we did it last time, the admins and staff chose. I think it would be interesting to have the rest of the public choose and see how it goes...

How does my attitude affect anything? I can't do shit for this site. I can't program, I can't make graphics, I can't moderate (Effectively. Reports take too much time to get to dry.gif), how does my attitude cause problems? All I can do is sit here, whine, bitch, whatever. I guess that could be a bit distracting for the staff, but if they could deal with situations some times. rolleyes.gif

I don't care if the admins have social lives. Thats great, let them have them. Its just that they say they will do this and that, and it doesn't happen. Its just, frustrating, I guess.

Redlion- I remember trial mods. Wasn't it kind of like a try-out for the moderating positions?

Hydro- Thanks. cool.gif
