Today was light on sweeps with the only ones to successfully pull it off being Terror Mountain and Maraqua against Faerie Land and Altador (No surprises in this department).
No. 11 Meridell and No. 12 Kiko Lake had their match today and they split the wins evenly, with Meridell taking YYB and MSN, and Kiko Lake having SS and SOSD. Unfortunately, since YYB has the highest weighting, Kiko Lake got the short end of the stick, but not by much.
No. 7 Mystery Island faced off against closely rated No. 9 Haunted Woods. Mystery Island decided to place their bet on the Yooyuball field, which is highest weighted, but they spread their backup forces a bit too thin, allowing Haunted Woods to sneak in and take all the side games. We're not sure if this was a ploy by Haunted Woods to foil Mystery Island's attempts at making a shot for the Top-4, and we were unable to find anyone to comment about Haunted Wood's intentions (well, I found one guy, but he was a little too scary to approach, so I failed at getting the dirty information today).
The current No. 1 team Kreludor was pitted against close geographical neighbors Virtupets, with results that could be expected from anyone who's been keeping an eye on Virtupets at all this season. Virtupets laid down the law in SOSD like they've done every game this season, then shifted their sights to Make Some Noise. After successfully conquering this game, they shifted again to Slushie Slinger, but were unable to make a large enough impact on scores before time ran out for the day. Kreludor was able to take the victory in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger as well as keep their top spot for another day.
Shenkuu faced Tyrannia today, and Shenkuu did their best to prove that there was a much larger difference in quality between No. 5 and No. 6 than meets the eye. Tyrannia snuck away with a Slushie Slinger victory, but Shenkuu took every other game left on the table. As of today's weighted scores, Shenkuu is closer to Kreludor (3.54 weighted points' difference) than they are to the competitor just below them (5.46 points' difference). This is comforting news for Shenkuu fans, but their inability to bridge the small gap between them and 4th is equally unsettling.
Lost Desert had their second bout with Roo Island today, and Roo Island seems on a mission to prove their worth on the field lately. They managed to pull a draw in Yooyuball against top-4 Lost Desert, but Lost Desert did not slack on the side games at all taking an overall points victory in the match. Roo Island may not have gained a full victory today, but they humbled a powerful team, and that can be considered at least a moral victory.
Big Match of the day goes to powerhouses Krawk Island and Darigan Citadel. As can be expected from two teams in contention for the No. 1 position, scores remained tight all day, with each team pulling off slight advantages, but then drawing back even. Near the end, though, Krawk Island maintained the tie in Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown when reinforcements arrived to help push them over the edge in Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. It was a tight match with only a slight victory going to the Krawkers. The saddest thing about this match for these two teams is that Kreludor has increased their lead and Lost Desert and Shenkuu are knocking on the back door of this power struggle.
Hoping for plenty more action tomorrow!
