Today's sweeps fall under the "expected" category. Tyrannia took the full point spread against Altador and Virtupets got their first YooYuBall win in a while with a clean sweep of Faerie Land (maintaining their perfect SOSD streak no less).
Meridell faced off against Terror Mountain and bit off a little more than their Marrow-eating mouths expected. Meridell probably expected Terror Mountain to roll over for YooYuBall, but the frosty fighters evened out a draw, but allowed a full side-game sweep.
Kiko Lake seemed to take a Virtupets approach to the games today, winning in SOSD against the Haunted Woods, but not doing much else. Hanted Woods happily accepted the wins in YooYuBall, Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise. Kiko Lake's slacking dropped them BEHIND Virtupets from 12th to 13th place.
Kreludor had a bit of trouble today fending off the scoring patterns of No. 10 Roo Island. The feisty islanders pulled off a draw in YooYuBall, but Kreludor took the advantage with wins in all three other departments. Despite the hiccup in YooYuBall protocall, this match-up expanded the No.1 team's lead from .75 to 1.25.
None expected big results from No. 9 Mystery Island when facing No. 2 Krawk Island, but Mystery Island fans know that when the Mysterious Winds blow, they blow in Mystery Island's favor. They laid down the law with a full victory in YooYuBall, while allowing a side-game sweep. This tactic may not net a huge win, but it's a point win in the end. Krawk Island has got to be sweating, as they've been steadily falling behind since they lost the No. 1 spot, and they know it's too late in the game to slip up big and give up the top seeding in the finals.
No. 6 Maraqua attempted to edge closer to the top rankings with a strong showing against No. 3 Lost Desert. After drawing in YooYuBall and Shootout Showdown, they pulled off the slight point advantage with a Slushie Slinger win against Lost Desert's Make Some Noise victory. They may not have moved up themselves, but they've pulled Lost Desert down a spot to 4th place... and are now under 5 points behind Darigan. A few strong victories could place them close enough to stab at the top-5, if not the top-4.
The match to watch today was Darigan vs. Shenkuu. Shenkuu recently replaced Darigan in the top-4, and one would think that they would be out for blood. Unfortunately for them, this is the third straight game against a top-5 team and they just didn't have the stamina to pull off another showdown. Shenkuu claimed wins in YooYuBall, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown, allowing only a loss in Slushie Slinger. That point advantage placed them firmly in the Top-4 with a shift from 4th to 3rd place, while only reaffirming Darigan's 5th place position. Darigan can finally catch their breath, facing Meridell today, but they need a sweep if they expect to pull back onto the leaderboard.
On a side note, Shenkuu may be riding high after this victory, but let's hope they left some wind in their sails for the back-to-back-to-back top-5 showdow. They showed strength against Darigan, but will they be able to maintain the pace against Krawk Island today and Lost Desert tomorrow? Only time will tell, so I'm going back down to the fields.
