Since its inception, Neocodex has offered multiple levels of programs to users. We offered programs to retired, private, public levels of members. However, most users who are in the private and retired levels don't play Neopets. The great programs reserved for these high levels of users go to waste while the users who would really benefit from the programs and would use it the most, get crippled versions. All this in an attempt to create an incentive for users to stick around the board and be active.

We are changing that today. From now on all of our programs are completely free to the public. Every single program that Neocodex has to offer will be available in our downloads section to use by members of any member level. The programs will be fully functional and not crippled in any way and users are free to use them as much as they want. There are no posting requirements and no extra membership requirements. Feel free to enjoy the programs as you will.

We have released a few programs already, and more are on their way. For now, enjoy :).

Psh I still say play legit.

But if you use the programs it's only to enhance your fun. I know people quit because they can't get anywhere on neopets. So go ahead use it but then when you're good go legit! :)

That's cool, let everyone equally enjoy the programs, but wouldn't there be a good bunch of people that will just join for the programs and not participate in forum activities and be active?

Probably, but that's alright :p. They will start to be active eventually and we will be pushing how great it is to be able to talk to other neopets players as well :p.

Wow... so will Neocodex end up being 20% participants and 80% leechers? Time will tell.

I say that if this will be the case, there should be a ranking of "inactive member," activated if post count falls below 1 post per 5 days or if user is inactive (no posts) for 2 weeks. A gentle reminder to the folks using the programs that there's a community waiting for them when they come back :p

It wouldn't even have to be a visible status (to avoid humiliation)... just something that let's the user (and the program they're using) know that they should check in every once in a while.

Maybe do away with that bullcrap as the users reach the designated levels of posting.

Just a suggestion to keep them coming back

I'm really trying, but all of this shit is coming up at the moment. I am trying to finalize our Python libraries, and there just seems to be one issue after another.

If you want to help, find me some screenshots of ABers out there so I have an idea on how to design the rest of the GUI. :p

I think you are being a bit generous. It's already 95% leachers! Codex is gaining new members all the time...faster and more regularly than I can remember but nobody is sticking around.

(Downloads all proggies then peaces it.)

Nah, I'm just joking dawgs. Although I probably will peace it anyways... (without downloading ofc)

I haven't played Neocraps for years so this means nothing to me. I doubt this will much change the site in my perspective due to what I see as no more new members staying already, if anything, it might actually make it a tad bit better because they can spend less time cheating and more time talking. (For those who play it anyways.)

Although ranks don't matter might be a shame, but just look at GG, it's
so lame because people just stay active for a crazy amount of time until they
get UG and then that's that.

Only concern is once school starts these programs won't be maintained,
therefore the community is going to die again.

With the way we have set things up, any programmer can fix bugs in a program and re-release the program. Also, maintenance is much less time consuming than creation of new programs :p.

Well as I recall the days I actually used to be active, when summar started Neocodex was flooded by posts and having the top posters daily have over like 50 posts each. It is now summer and those stats have changed to several posts a day per member, max? I think the balance between summer and school is no longer noticeable, it's more like everyone who is already here maintains the same amount of activity all year long. Although of course I could be proven wrong with board statistics (if it's able to be viewed by regular members, I don't know and am too lazy to check.)

Quick edit: Just checked and some members like Noitidart may be topping the charts still, but usually when I check it is as I said.

I support this idea wholeheartedly. Better to have people who are loyal to the site and active because they choose to be without incentive, I think. Better to have good quality people over high quantities of posts without any meat and potatoes.

I believe that people will be active, once they see how well the programs work and the quality of them.

Yeah, if they get confused, they'll come make a few mindless posts asking for help or something, or maybe they'll grave dig some threads made over a year ago.

Or not, I dunno what will happen, every forum is different.
