Here is my idea, been theorycrafting with Jcr in msn for a few.

How about a weekly, 1st/2nd/3rd place giveaway on the forums, based off either a trivia question, forum activity or a referral system.

It would be funded by me and Jcr, first place prizes in the upwards of 400k+, 2nd place around 120-150k, and 3rd place a codestone set/faerie bottle set.

It would help promote forum activity and be a generous gift to all of you : ).

It would occur on a set day, probably Saturday, and i think it would be alot of fun.

Opinions/Suggestions, Post here!

I like the concept (thus why I'm considering funding it)...

We're currently working on brainstorming impartial methodologies of judging.

Just figured it would be a cool way to give back and encourage new members to give back while getting something in return

Sounds risky.
Might want to talk to the ex-contest team leaders and see what they have to say on the matter

Elaborate on the risk, so i may find the flaws and fix them.

Weekly is too much. I would recommend once a month. If we get more members then bi weekly :)
We had a contest team before you'll get sucked dry fast if you do weekly :(

Yeah, this was just a stray idea, monthly sounds good.

And i mean all the money being used to fund it would come from abrosia, i really dont care for neopets that much, so being sucked dry to help others is a fair trade.

I tried to promote activity with my avatar lending thread but it appears to have failed.

I did one a long time ago...
had the same problem...
Also, the risk I could see is when transfering, may be a bit suspicious...

How about creating a neopets guild prior, and using that as a method to condone the prize giveaways?

How about this concept here: We establish boards in the shop threads on Neopets stating that we're holding a completely free giveaway for the x person to post an offer. I'm doubting that TNT will be looking into how many offers were made or in what order. FREE GIVEAWAYS are legal on Neopets, so the receiver would be an "unwary recipient."

Is there any vague possibility that this might work or is it a completely bat shit idea?

I think a giveaway (weekly or monthly) is a good idea. As for having prizes in Neopets, it sounds too risky because if the account that sends prizes gets caught and frozen, people who received prizes might go down with the account.

I think a special status that grants full access in Abrosia (and other programs with restrictions) would be a better idea. This will be slightly safer and easier to manage while allowing more people to win. Maybe even increase the time of the status depending on how many people won (less people = more time, more people = less time). Here is an example:

1 correct per 100 participants - 4 Weeks
1 correct per 70 participants - 3 Weeks
1 correct per 30 participants - 2 Weeks
1 correct per 10 participants - 1 Week
1 correct per 5 participants - 2 Days
Everybody correct - 1 Day or 1 Session

Only users with less than 500 posts would find the rewards worth while but I'm sure there could be alternative prizes (items on Neopets) or other upgrades that comes with the the special status.

No, we should award status to programs for free. That should be earned.

Sending neopoints is safe. We used to do that all the time.

I think everyone is overthinking this really, if someone doesnt want to risk a slim chance of getting frozen, which they already have as they're on neocodex participating in bots and autobuyers, they dont have to participate in the contests/giveaways.

Its that simple really, and also thanks everyone for being helpful.

I just want to help, and have some fun along the way really : )

This would be a nice addition to the forum, something fun to participate in other then arguing with each other.

Though, Neoology, that would require work by SL to make special exceptions for those who are under Advanced to take away the restrictions, and I doubt he wants to do extra work on Abrosia when it isn't needed. Besides, the program is fine even with restrictions right now, unlocking it just makes it a little more convenient.

Also, I'd probably be nice and help fund this, that is if I wasn't a greedy bastard and want to spend it all on a Sword of Skardsen when I get enough for it.

Kitsune, why are you such a buzzkill.

You should work as a crossing guard, it'd be great.

If someone's using autobuyer's and bot's, i think there nerve would be strong enough to take a prize for winning a damn forum contest.
