Preliminary data, uncovered after NASA sent two spacecraft crashing into the lunar surface last month, indicated the discovery of some two-dozen gallons of water in a permanently shadowed lunar crater.

"Yes indeed we found water and we did not find only a little bit but a significant amount," said Anthony Colaprete, project scientist and principal investigator for the 79-million-dollar LCROSS mission.

"In the 20- to 30-meter (66- to 100-foot) crater we found maybe about a dozen, at least, two-gallon buckets of water. This is an initial result," Colaprete told reporters.

You guys can go and live on the moon. I'm holding out for mars :)

What "fun" will there be except the gravity difference since you could probably get a gravity difference here on earth if you have money...

The significane of water on the moon means that it has the potential for an atmosphere!

But it's going to take something that will recieve sunlight first. The water needs to be exposed to the sun. Then millions of years later, bacteria will form, then blue algae will start to grow, then millions of years later, atmosphere.

Anyone willing to wait about a billion or so years for that to happen?

The moon has an atmosphere. Offgassing & sputtering from micrometeorites help contribute to that. However, it just happens to be like 1 x 10^-15 times the density of Earth's =P

Okay. I'll correct it. "Potential for earth-like atmosphere"
