Hash lists contain lists of accounts and some of their information, and people pay for said accounts and afterwards crack the excess info, that being things like the birthday or the pins.
Other people feel free to correct and/or add to this statement.

Neopets has been around for 10 years now and has a team of "professionals." Needless to say their username/password security would have to be pretty tight after this many years.
Many people DO join other neopets-related sites, though. These sites are usually run by slightly less professional types, making them easier to take advantage of.
Many legitimate users will even use the same username/password/email on these fan sites as they do on Neopets.
Hackers that know how to take advantage of database weaknesses will target these sites and harvest their data. Thus the hash lists are created.
All this leaves the end-user to do is crack the birthday and PIN (if applicable) and they have some fresh accounts.

It's this simple: wear my patented vibrating heat-bead suit, then jam an unbelievable amount of pure, raw crystal meth into your system! You might ask, "Isn't crystal meth illegal?" You bet!

That is still stealing, which is something I personally despise. However if you were to buy a t.v. with a bunch of money that was earned over time, just illegitimately(maybe drug dealing/ABing) with a risk being involved(Prison/Icetown), then I believe it falls out of the stealing category. Or at least want to believe it does.
Anywho, welcome to the forums DrOg, although I don't think you will be able to sell any of your stolen items here now that you've admitted to using hash lists.

I in no way condone stealing, but IMO there is the right way and wrong way of this too

As far as I know, that's not true. Buying hash lists isn't the same as scamming on trades, which DrOgrish hasn't done.
I've traded with him on other sites.
