Well.. in OUR defense, the thread is already at the top and so us posting it won't be bumping it any further... except that our post will provoke someone else to make a post as well...

why has this returned?
It happens because people see a way of gaining posts without actually contributing.
Eventually they realize that 500 is a long way to go, so they will do one of the following:
1. Start gravedigging intros
2. Find somewhere else to post mindlessly
3. Buy Advanced and wait for more new people
4. Start posting intelligently in other sections
The last two are pretty unlikely.
