you know whats funny? women are supposed to be good cooks
but the best chefs in the world are men

except for cat cora, she doesn't count. no one picks her in iron chef anyways.

but i am a pretty awesome cook if i do say so myself.
one thing i learned from some other cooks is that real cooks dont use recipes - they do it all by taste and judgement.

i can offer some pointers and general recipe ingredients but not amounts lol

although, i do admit that i DO use recipes if i cook a dish for the first time. besides that, i got the general jist of it and do it by taste

oh and i LOVE eating. some of the food places here in Hawaii are AMAZING

My 9 year old sister made me breakfast in bed this morning (she is staying with me for a week) she called it Sabrinas apple pie at first look i thought..wtf that looks awful, but i was suprised to find it was really good!!!!

- Cinnamon toast or you can use normal bread wth brown sugar and cinnamon
- Apple pie filing
- Orange cheddar chesse (we had mild) shredded

toast your toast in the oven on broil, but make sure to watch it since it only takes a min or 2.
then take it out and put apple pie filling on it
then put your cheese on the top. (she used just enough to cover the pie filling)
then put it back into the oven on broil for a couple of minutes or untill the chesse melts.

im not sure where she learned this or maybe she made it up herself i dont know, but its not gross infact its very yummy and easy to make and fun for kids :)
we will do it tommorow again and take a picture

Fontina Mac and Cheese
from The Complete Italian Vegetarian Cookbook by Jack Bishop (as seen on Ezra Pound Cake and Annie's Eats)

1 pound medium pasta shells
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
1 cup heavy cream
8 oz Fontina cheese, shredded
salt
pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 400 F. In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook the pasta according to the package directions until it just about al dente.

Meanwhile, add 4 tablespoons of the butter (cut into 4 pieces) to a large bowl. Warm the cream in a small saucepan (or in your microwave) and cover to keep warm.

Once it is cooked, drain the pasta then add it to the bowl with the butter. Stir to melt the butter and coat the pasta. Add the cream and the cheese and mix until the cheese starts to melt. Add the nutmeg and finally, the salt to taste.

Transfer the pasta mixture to a baking dish (I used a 2 1/2 qt dish) that's been lightly sprayed with cooking spray. Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in a small bowl in your microwave then add the panko bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese to the bowl. Stir to coat with the melted butter. Sprinkle the mixture over the pasta.

Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the topping turns golden brown.

mmmm all of that sounds great. My girlfriend does most of the cooking, but I make a decent stirfry with oregano and arugala, onions, squash, red/green peppers, garlic, and mushrooms. And rice of course. :)

Deep fried tofu works really well in stir fries. I know, tofu sounds boring, but it's really nice with some soy sauce.

Here is my favourite recipe: cheese and crackers.

Ingredients
Bavarian smoked (preferably fancy stuff from a German market).
Applewood (smoked Cheddar, but softer, milder and paprika-y. Smells like bacon.)
Camembert. I love Red Lion's version - it is creamy and delicious.
Brie. Duh.
Caerphilly cheddar, because too many fancy cheeses spoil the pallet.
Garstang blue, paired with a sweet wine.
Tasty Lancashire.
LE ROULÉ. It's cream cheese with herbs and garlic but way better than that crap you're used to. Screw the crackers with this one; dip plain crisps into it. The salt brings out the flavour and makes it even more awesome.
Goats' cheese. You don't want one of those teeny mini logs; they suck. You want a slice of a bigger log - it should have a rind. A delicious rind.
And whatever other cheeses catch my eye.
Crackers.

Instructions
1) Slice cheese.
2) Put on crackers.

Behold my baking skills:

6 coloured white cake layers + a ton of whipped cream (low fat - as if that changed the fact that the cake was almost lethal to anyone who wasn't as addicted to sugar like my friends)

I'm fairly proficient but I stick to really simply dishes (less than 5 ingredients and with a handful of steps I can memorize)

My steak making skills have gotten pretty good. I can now consistently cook a steak perfectly without having to cut it open every 5 minutes :p

Favourite Dishes:
Chicken breast stuffed with cheese and broccoli
Steak and baked potato (steamed vegetables sometimes. I love having a mushroom/string beans with it but I always forget to buy them)
Shrimp and rice
Rice noodles with chicken broth and shrimp (makes for an awesome Ramen-like soup)
Hamburgers (with melted cheese in the center, cooked with some garlic and onions with lots of condiments)
Brownies

That chicken pot pie recipes looks pretty awesome. I think I'll try it out. Will remove the celery though. And add in a tiny bit of garlic/onion

You must not remember your own posts, you posted 2 weeks ago that you already don't like Easy Mac.

Also, if you get sick from Easy Mac, then you obviously did something wrong while you were cooking it.

I think disliking is understandable. It's not that good food for me. I don't get sick from Easy Mac but I really don't like it that much.

Yeah, getting downright sick because of Easy Mac is quite a very rare event. There must be something with Alex's stomach.

Easy Mac

So gross. They were actually giving out boxes at school. Ew much?

I like to cook soups mostly. If you guys like Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) here's my recipe:

Ingredients

Soup Stock:
  • Prepared beef stock
  • 5 star anise
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks
  • A spoonful of cloves
  • 6 coins of charred ginger
  • Brown sugar
  • Salt and Pepper
  • A bunch of peppercorns (black)
  • Water
  • Lime juice
  • Clove seeds
  • Nuoc Mam (Optional)
Beef Balls:

  • 0.5 kg of ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon of white pepper
  • Sesame oil
  • 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper
  • Nuoc mam (fish sauce)
  • 1.5 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of potato starch (add more if you like)
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
Garnish:
  • Thin slices of beef
  • Mung Bean sprouts
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Rice Noodles
  • Onions, cut into half-moon shapes
  • Coriander/Cilantro leaves
  • Green onion, cut up
  • Lime
  • Sriracha/hoisin optional.
Method:

  • Add your beef stock in and put your charred (grilled) ginger in the soup stock after it boils. In my tea balls (total of 3), I added pepper corns (about 2 tablespoons full or so), (1 teaspoons worth of cloves), and the star anise. Let it come to a simmer.
  • Add in the cinnamon sticks and simmer.
  • Taste the broth and remove cinnamon sticks after 10 minutes or so, and remove the anise/cloves if desired as well. Simmer more.
  • Add salt and pepper into the mixture and adjust to your liking. Strain the soup so it's got nothing in it but broth. It should be aromatic. Add some lime juice and stir. Keep on low heat, covered.
  • Mix all the beef ball ingredients in a bowl and put half the mixture in food processor. Process until it is smooth and looks like pate/liver spread. It should be airy to the touch. Do the same with the other half mixture.
  • Boil a pot of water, and roll the processed meat mixture into balls. Put into pot of boiling water and remove when it floats up.
  • In a bowl, put the noodles in, sliced beef, bean sprouts, coriander, onions in. Slice beef balls in half and add broth. Serve.
