In Topic: Whats your education path?

04 May 2007 - 01:42 PM

Starting a few years ago... uhm...

Attend a small public high school, take toughest curriculum available, including college classes on the side starting my sophomore year, because no IP or AB is available.
be involved in EVERYTHING (the one plus about so small a school) basically just for my transcript, including WYSE, quiz bowl, cheerleading, Student council, volunteering, NHS...
Graduate with a 4.1GPA (I'm not bragging... it was EASY.) Tie for Valedictorian.
Attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA (present!)

Now it can split off two ways!

PLAN A!
Major in psych, philosophy (yeah philosophy!), or biology, with a concentration in Neuroscience (yeah Neuro!).
Do some independent study, go to Hungary for Neuroscience my junior year.
Graduate, travel for a year or two (either Peace Corps or JET or something teaching English or doing research) before I can hopefully get paid for grad school in Neuroscience, since women in science are a majority, weela!
Do research/ teach/ be an ethicist. TRAVEL YEAH!

PLAN B! (more likely!)
Lose my scholarship!
Sadly shuffle back to my hometown and go to a public university!
Get a degree in something easy!
Travel and never come back!

joy!

Athean... I'm not sure I would consider Ayn Rand a philosopher... or maybe I just don't like her

In Topic: Calc help... deh

*stares at it for a while* Oh. That's complicated. tongue.gif

Yeh, I had a terrible calc teacher last semester for introduction - add that to the fact that I was one of 3 kids in the whole intro class who hadn't had calc before and I was basically screwed. I don't understand any of it. ._. Thank you for your help, but yeah, I do feel silly answering when I don't know how to go about it. I guess I'll go to the teacher... Thanks darling. <3

Jesus fucking Christ, Frizz.

That's all I have to say, really. I can't believe you would actually insinuate that that's not totally, ridiculously wrong.

Brookus - A Brief History OF Time - not IN time. tongue.gif

I'm in a philosophy of science class right now, woo, try Hegel. He's pretty easy to read. Philosophy of Natural Science is good.

Also Popper's the Logic of Scientific Discovery.

If you want more of a challenge, maybe Aristotle's Posterior Analytics. I'm sure with something that intense your teacher would allow you to have excerpts.

And politics are boring. But Life of Pi's good! woot metaphysics and state of the philosophical and religious world, that's pretty political. Actually Life of Pi would be pretty killer for a philosophical AND political view, not so much philosophy of politics though.

Blagh. I'm sorry but I just don't like the Marines. However, now it's been a while since I looked this stuff up but I believe the Marines or the Army have the lowest ASVAB requirements, but all branches are around the low 30th percentile, so definitely don't worry about it. I don't think they look at grades much in the first place either.

I know a girl who had to go to 'fat camp' for the marines before entering boot camp... tongue.gif she wasn't even really that big but you know. I dunno. I'm done.
