#2011955 Twin Peaks

Posted by Waser Lave on 20 July 2017 - 08:06 AM

I haven't watched the first two seasons but decided I would give this a go. I love watching intelligent shows like Sherlock, GoT, Hannibal, ones that really make you speculate.

But with Twin Peaks I'm getting more confused the longer I watch it.    I downloaded like 7 or 8 episodes so I really want to give it a go, but I think I will have to stop after S3E02 and watch the first 2 seasons first.

And that talking or screaming tree really freaked me out, what's up with that thing?!?

I'm very curious, so I will start from the beginning.

Enjoy the show. :)

You need to have watched the earlier seasons to be able to 'understand' it really, there's a lot of linkages which are indecipherable otherwise. I can't even imagine what it's like trying to watch series 3 in isolation. :p

Spoiler

New season is so good and sooooooooooooo sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo weird

what the hell was up with the nuclear hobos

wwhat even was that episode

#2002821 Anyone any good with identifying plants?

Posted by Waser Lave on 10 March 2017 - 03:43 PM

I LOVE this. When I said 'inside', I was thinking one of those stereotypical European closets lol

Not sure what you mean by European closets? In Britain just about every house has a traditional shrubbery pantry where we grow plants like herbs, small vegetables and such things and is also where we tend to keep small pets like hamsters, rabbits and haggises but I don't know what they do in the rest of Europe.

That's actually amazing! Never saw that house.

The entire street is actually pretty interesting, all of the houses are unique and designed by different architects. Worth a wander over there if you're interested in architecture.

probably shouldn't grow a tree inside lol

Funnily enough one of the most interesting things to see in Amsterdam is the house which is actually built around a fully grown, live tree. ;)

(When I say interesting I mean interesting to me, some people may think what I find interesting is a bit odd)

#2001975 What are your thoughts on sending nudes?

Posted by Waser Lave on 22 February 2017 - 12:09 PM

Never done it personally, probably mostly due to growing up at a time when phones barely had internet connections, had the screen resolution of a potato and it cost a week's wages to send an MMS. I also struggle to see how anybody would find dick pics attractive at all... One could dress it up as some kind of woodland creature I suppose. Or perhaps create a jaunty hat for it. Hmm.

We have all done stuff when we was young :p

Didn't realise you could send nudes by telegram.

Richard has to be exposed to be a nude! lol. That's my .02

I agree, anything less is just pointless.

#1997814 Why this error keeps showing up? Its just me?

That would happen if you're using a proxy which has been previously assigned to a banned member and so the IP is banned.

#1991088 Pancakes vs Waffles

Posted by Waser Lave on 24 August 2016 - 01:41 AM

Lemon and sugar is the acceptable pancake topping on pancake day and I'm not sure that works on american pancakes... @Waser Lave, please advise, you're so northern that you do things different

In the north we do everything, waffles, pancakes, drop scones and crepes (they're all essentially the same recipe but cooked in a different way, you could also throw Yorkshire pudding in there if you really wanted). :p Many people bastardise them with stupid toppings which aren't lemon and sugar and those people should be thoroughly shunned and possibly publicly flogged though I am partial to blueberry syrup on occasion but I usually save that for blueberry dumplings. As for drop scones, they're similar to the scotch pancakes you can buy in shops but not as sweet or light, essentially just small pancakes but cooked on a griddle (or girdle as they're called up here) which is a big heavy, flat pan rather than a regular frying pan. Pretty sure 'scone' is just Scottish for cake or something as in 'tattie scone' which is cooked in the same way, people from Scotland are weird.

#1990507 Caster Semenya

Posted by Waser Lave on 17 August 2016 - 12:20 PM

I wonder if people asked the same questions about the Special Olympics. I understand that it's infeasible, but what would your alternative be?

I imagine there are a lot more disabled people (especially with all the veterans from recent wars) than there are people who are sufficiently intersexed to warrant being in their own category (i.e. far enough from 99% of female competitors to have an advantage and far enough from male competitors to be disadvantaged). I already gave an alternative, a handicap system based on testosterone levels (since we don't have any better measure currently) whereby the higher your testosterone level the greater your handicap and that way you'd have a more even playing field and intersex athletes could continue competing within the existing male/female groupings.

#1990502 Caster Semenya

Posted by Waser Lave on 17 August 2016 - 11:03 AM

So because it doesn't apply to the masses it's too bad so sad for the people who would benefit from it?

How many people in the world would be classed as intersex? How many of those people are interested in sport? How many of those people want to dedicate their lives to sport full time? You're not left with a lot of potential competitors after you whittle them down...and that's before you get to considering who would actually want to watch it or fund it. A laudable but impractical aim I reckon.
