[GUIDE] The Cost of Training Your Pet

25 September 2011 - 02:41 AM

Gwalle’s guide to the cost of training your pet (up to the start of Ninja School)

I know a few of these are out there but recently I found the need to know how much it would cost to level a pet to a decent HSD, what would be the cheapest way to do it and how long it would take.

I guess I will first start by giving some simple facts:

Mystery Island Training School
Can train your:
Strength/Defense/Speed: at twice your level
Health points: at triple your level

You can only train Strength/Defense/Speed if no other stat is more than double your level.

E.g. A level 20 pet with 48 HP, 28 Str, 34 Def and 32 Spd must have its level raised to half of the highest stat (48 HP) before you can train other stats.

Below is the table that explains pet level, codestone cost and the time each course takes to complete.

The Swashbuckling Academy
The other beginners training academy is the Swashbuckling Academy. This is cheaper but has downsides when compared to the Mystery Island Training School. These are as follows:

1. The Swashbuckling Academy can only train HP/Str/Def/Spd at twice your level. The difference here is the HP being limited to twice, not triple as in the Mystery Island Training School.

2. The Swashbuckling Academy trains at a significantly slower pace.

3. The Swashbuckling Academy only trains to level 40 and thus 80 of each stat.

However, if you are willing to wait the extra time, you will save 50%+ on your training costs (at the cost of losing around 50% of the speed).

Below is the table that explains pet level, dubloon cost and the time each course takes to complete.

The cost of training with dubloons and codestones
Having prowled through various resources (Neocodex, TDN and Jelly to name the main three) and doing my own research (scoping shop wizard and trade prices), I came up with an estimate of the cheapest way to train a pet from the basic stats of:

Level: 1, STR: 10, DEF: 10 and HP: 10

To the end of normal codestone training:

Level: 250, STR: 500, DEF: 500 and HP: up to 750 (750 HP not advised if you plan on going onto red codestone… 590 is sufficient so you do not pay more in red codestones later).

Stat increasing items
Below are lists of items that increase your pet’s stats. I have used the shop wizard/trading post for the cheapest prices. Some price are well above their ‘actual’ value (namely the ones worth 300,000 or more are usually over price online – especially the ones ‘worth’ millions)

Neggs
Pros: Instant
Cons: Expensive, hunger-limited

Other Stat-Increasing Items

Pros: Instant, No hunger-limitation
Cons: Expensive

Big updates 11/10/2011

Would appreciate +rep if anyone finds this guide useful (whether you post a reply or not) - it will give me an indication on if I should continue to update it in the future :)
Also, post anything you would like to see in the guide you feel I have left out or have not explained thoroughly enough.

Need quick choice on new PC screen

22 September 2011 - 10:45 PM

So I'm looking a buying a new computer screen as my current is old, shitty and well i just got dollars at the moment to spend.

I'm undecided about a few things:
1. Size - I've been reading 24" is a pretty stock standard size for desktops (atm I'm using a 26", it's perhaps a bit big for gaming)
2. Quantity - With my current rig i can hook up two screens... but i think two would function worse than one (gap b/w screens, etc)... would love to go for a 3 screen set up but i would then need to upgrade some of my computer... then this would turn into a bigger than expected money-sinker.
3. Gaming is what i built the computer for, but until D3 comes out i do not see myself gaming much (nothing that great out atm), so the computer is largely my movie/tv viewer... so i have contemplated getting a bigger screen (32"-42") for that... but im unsure if that could later screw up gaming experience?

My budget is ~$600 MAX, but ideally ~$400 for a 32", ~$250 for 24"
Things i have been looking at are:
24"

32"

42"

My items aren't being used in BD?

16 September 2011 - 11:04 PM

So I wanted to do a bit of 1-P battling today but every challenger I attempt to verse the same problem occurs... NONE of my items seem to be used when they are clicked and checked...
My skills seem to all work fine just not one item.

I tried un-equipping then re-equipping them but still nothing...

Anyone else having this problem or have had this problem and were able to overcome it?

Help with starting BD'ing

01 September 2011 - 12:55 AM

Hey guys, so I'm starting to put together a battle pet and set and looking to see what i should get onto buying next...

Pet Stats:

Species : Hissi
Agility : 40-50
Attack : 40-50
Defence: 40-50
Current hp: 140-50 / 140-50
Intelligence: 100-125

Currently using:
  • Downsize!
  • Pirate Captains Cutlass
  • Greater Healing Scroll
  • Hanso Charisma Charm
  • Snowglobe Staff
  • Purple Sticky Hand
  • Honey Potion
  • Leaf Shield

I have ~ 7mil to spend
I'm thinking of purchasing either Faerie Tabard or Ghostkershield
Atm my thoughts are on Tabard as Hanso has full Dark immune... but maybe i could then look into a second big constant hitter?

Or should i look to getting a 100% freezer? Or another big icon multi-use weapon? Or upgrade my bomb to a Ghostkerbomb?

some feedback on the order i should look to purchase things in as well as the items i should be looking to get would be a great help
