I can do that? Odd...I didn't know that I can create a profile and specifically indicate a version type to use...and maybe I am not even installing correctly (?) to try to get it to use a certain profile? *feels like a dumbass* Okay, I'll try that in a little bit after I get done messing with a bit of things I'm currently building! Thank you so much, MC10!!!
You could just specify for it to use release 1.8 in the default profile but making a new one is easier for me to keep track of haha. Don't worry about it, there's a first time for everything. Good luck and I hope it all works out. Seeing shaders for yourself will probably be even cooler than the screenshots.

@MC10 and @Strategist and anyone who may be able to help me with this little dilemma:
Earlier today, I was going to get things squared away so that I could fire up shaders whenever I wish for super-awesome screenies and such...alas, such is not to be had (for now), unless anyone knows of a possible work-around.
Being a 1.8.1 user, I was of course going with the non-Forge method...but lo and behold, when trying to install ShadersMod, I ran across a method that I did not have 1.8 installed! D'oh! Unfortunately...a couple of weeks back, I had stripped Minecraft entirely from my system and re-installed...and (from my digging on the web to troubleshoot this ShadersMod issue), apparently you have to have run 1.8 (NOT 1.8.1) AT LEAST ONCE as 1.8 in order to install ShadersMod (for which a 1.8.1 version is not available right now but is stated as being under development).
Is there a way to roll-back to 1.8 at all in order to get ShadersMod installed and going before letting 1.8.1 start going?
What I do is just create a new profile and tell it to use release 1.8. Then install Shaders Mod and it will create another profile with the Shaders Mod installed ready. You won't be able to use it with a 1.8.1 profile yet. 1.8 works with the server though.
EDIT:
Just changed the first post a bit to reflect that information.

[Guide] Minecraft Resources Installation (Texture Packs, Mods, Shaders)
Introduction
Here is a quick guide to show you how to install texture packs and shaders in Minecraft. I know there are probably countless threads and videos on other forums, especially the Minecraft forums, but this is just a quick and simple version for us Codexians. I was motivated to make this by this thread/post and I hope it helps!
I am adding images and will make a video soon.
Things covered in this guide:
- Texture Packs
- Mods: OptiFine and Shaders Mod
- Shader Packs
WARNING: The current version of Minecraft as of posting this is 1.8.1. This guide will be using resources that are for 1.8 and 1.8.1 so not everything will be compatible with clients or servers that are newer.
Some things made for 1.8.x will be compatible for other updates within the major update of 1.8.x.

Links
Flow's HD 128x Texture Pack: http://www.flowshd.com/vanilla.html
OptiFine: https://optifine.net/downloads or http://www.minecraft...-textures-aa-af
Shaders Mod: http://www.minecraft...ted-by-karyonix
Sonic Ether's Unbelievable Shaders (SEUS): http://www.minecraft...e-shaders-v10-1
~~~~~~~~~~
Texture Packs
1. Download
Download the texture pack you want to use. I will use Flow's HD 128x for example, as shown in this thread.
Now you will have the file, this one is called 1.8flowshd.zip.
Notice: Flow's HD 128x is for Minecraft 1.8. The 64x version is still for Minecraft 1.7.10 at this time.
2. Install
Navigate to your .minecraft folder. It is just called minecraft for Mac OS X. Linux is still .minecraft.
The folder location is:
Windows: C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux: ~/.minecraft
Visit this page for more information.
Now navigate to the resourcepacks folder. Cut and paste your zip file that you downloaded to that folder.
3. Select
Now you will need to launch Minecraft. Go to Options... and then Resource Packs...
You will see the Available and Selected Resource Packs.
Move the one you want to use from Available to Selected by clicking on the arrow that appears when you hover or that pack.
That's it! Click Done and it should load the texture pack.
~~~~~~~~~~
Mods
For different mods, the instructions will be different. These instructions are mainly for installing OptiFine and Shaders Mod to increase performance and be able to use shaders.
I recommend that you refer to each mod's own forum thread on the Minecraft forums for more detailed instructions on how to install and use them.
Notice: These will create new profiles in the launcher and you need to use the profiles with ones you want installed.
OptiFine
1. Download
You can download the one for either 1.8.1 or 1.8.0, or both. The OptiFine 1.8.0 HD U B6 version works with Shaders Mod so you can use both at once. This will allow you to use Shaders and also get a performance boost to help increase FPS.
Notice: At the time of writing this guide, the C1, C2, and C3 versions of OptiFine have been released but ShadersMod has not been updated to account for them yet so I will be using the B6 version.
You could download from their website or check the forum thread for more information.
2. Install
Once you have the file, just run it. Click Install and it should tell you if it installed successfully.
3. Use
In order to have OptiFine be in effect, you have to used the new profile that it has created. When you launch Minecraft, you should see it has created a new profile called OptiFine.
I recommend renaming this to 1.8 OptiFine or 1.8.1 OptiFine to distinguish them if you install multiple versions.
Shaders Mod
1. Download
You can download Shaders Mod for non-Forge and Minecraft 1.8: http://www.minecraft...d-1-8-installer
2. Install
Once you have the ShadersMod-v2.4.6mc1.8-installer.jar file, run it.
WARNING: Make sure you have the version of Minecraft you are installing the mod for. To ensure this, open the launcher create a new profile. Name is 1.8 Minecraft or something and use release 1.8 for the version. Launch 1.8 and then quit game after it's done loading, close the launcher as well. Make sure the game and launcher are closed before installing this mod.
Click OK through the options that come up. It should tell you when it is finished.
Now you can move down to the Shaders (Packs) section for installing different shader packs.
~~~~~~~~~~
Shaders (Packs)
1. Download
I will be using SEUS shaders for example. There are various others.
Go to the forum page linked above and scroll down until you see the downloads like in the picture below. Download the version you want, the options are: Standard, Ultra, Ultra DOF, Ultra Motion Blur. You can test them all to see what your computer can handle or what version you like.
You should get a file like SEUS-v10.1-Ultra.zip or the names for your versions.
2. Install
Navigate to your Minecraft directory again. There should be a shaderpacks folder. Move the .zip file(s) into that folder.
3. Select
Now open the version of Minecraft with the Shaders installed. It should be a profile called 1.8-ShadersMod. Go to Options... then Shaders and you should see them listed there. Select the one you want and click Done.
~~~~~~~~~~
Let me know if you have any comments or questions! If there is something you would like added or feel is important, feel free to suggest.

Dang Strat, I'd live there.
I think texture packs are relatively easy to install now, you just put the zip in the resourcepacks folder. Then in Minecraft, go to Options, then Resource Packs and move the one you want over from Available to Selected.
Shaders worked easiest for me when I used ForgeModLoader with this Shaders mod which is derived from GLSL: http://www.minecraft...ted-by-karyonix
Once that works there will be a shaderpacks folder and you do the same thing, put the files in that folder and select the one you want to use in Minecraft.
EDIT:
@Chameleon I've just begun to make a guide/tutorial thread for this since it seems like something that would be helpful. It will be more in detail and hopefully explain it better.
#1840641 Where my K-pop fans at?
Posted by MC10
on 04 January 2015 - 04:47 PM
Does anyone else here listen to K-pop?
I'm so ronery.
Or maybe C-pop/J-pop?
I used to be a crazy fan in high school, but now I just follow somewhat casually. This is my equivalent of an anime obsession for some of you out there .
~~~~~
I guess I'll make some questions to start us off. We can also discuss comebacks and such later on.
Questions:
1. How did you find out about K-pop(C-pop/J-pop)?
2. Favorite groups/artists/members.
3. Your journey. (I've been through many phases, idk about you guys)
4. Anything else you want to mention.
Glossary:
(Sorry if it's overwhelming, don't worry about it. This is for people just getting into K-pop or confused by the terms that may show up in this thread.)
Hallyu (Korean Wave) = the increase in the popularity of South Korean culture around the world, similar to Cool Japan
bias = favorite member in all of K-pop or in a group (I don't actually use this term or know how to)
idol = K-pop celebrity, kind of like Japanese idols or the ones in animes
group = the standard K-pop unit that usually consists of 5 members on average, there are some with less or more
sub-unit = a unit created from certain members of the main group, they usually have a different style/promote different music than the original group
leader = usually, but not necessarily, the oldest member in the group, given more responsibilities, looks after other members
maknae = the youngest member in a group
comeback = when a group/artist has a new album or release and they promote it on the Korean music programs
Big 3 = S.M., YG, and JYP are the three largest companies
ent = abbreviation for Entertainment company, such as SM Ent, YG Ent, and JYP Ent
sasaeng fans = crazy, stalker fans that try to follow their idols and interrupt their private lives, some not considered fans as they even try to harm these celebrities
spazz(ing) = being generally hyper/crazy and excited when discussing a topic
oppa = older male for a female, big brother
unnie = older female for a female, big sister
hyung = older male for a male, big brother
noona = older female for a male, big sister
saranghae(yo*) = I love you, to love
annyeong(haseyo*) = hello, greeting
*makes it more polite
Group Name Acronyms/Descriptions:
SNSD = So Nyeo Shi Dae (Korean)/ Shojo Jidai (Japanese) / Girls' Generation (English) / meaning is "The generation of girls' domination has come." / often shortened to SoShi
TVXQ/DBSK = Tong Vfang Xien Qi (Chinese) / Dong Bang Shin Ki (Korean) / Tohoshinki (Japanese) / roughly translates to "Rising Gods of the East"
Feel free to correct me or add suggestions, I don't actually know Korean.
Have anything else fun to add? Let me know!
Here's me:
1. I was a sophomore in high school when some Facebook friends were changing their profile pictures to their favorite SNSD members. I didn't know what it was at the time so I asked my friend about it. It turns out she was a big K-pop fan already (mainly Super Junior). I think the first song I ever heard/watched was Chocolate Love by Girls Generation, which is actually an LG phone commercial. I only knew Girls' Generation and Super Junior (probably just Sorry, Sorry) at the time. From then on I was hooked of course.
2.
Favorite groups and members:
Girls' Generation/TTS: Seohyun
Super Junior: Kyuhyun
KARA: Seungyeon
Big Bang
f(x): Sulli
SHINee
CNBLUE: Jonghyun
After School/Orange Caramel: Kaeun/Uee/Raina
missA
B.E.G.: JeA
Rainbow: Hyunyoung
EXID: Solji
C-Clown: T.K
Epik High
Nine Muses: Pyo Hyemi
Crayon Pop: Soyul
Fiestar: Cao Lu/Linzy
Hello Venus: Yooyoung
Others: 2NE1, IU, TVXQ, Girl's Day, 2PM, 2AM, AOA, BoA, PSY, Lee Hi, Akdong Musician, Secret, B.A.P, BESTie, 4minute, TEEN TOP, MBLAQ, Block B, Dal Shabet, Davichi, Wonder Girls, Ladies' Code, Sistar, T-ARA, G.NA, Son Dambi
I'm probably forgetting a bunch more.
3. At first all I knew were artists from the Big 3: SM, YG, and JYP. Well actually, mostly just SM at first. Girls' Generation and Super Junior were first like I mentioned earlier. I would spazz about stuff with my friend a lot. Apparently I had an IU phase according to her. I had an After School phase like junior/senior year of high school, the sub-unit Orange Caramel too. Freshman year of college I had a Nine Muses phase. I've been listening to Epik High a lot in college (with some Eminem in there as well lol). Now I'm following Hello Venus.
4. Feel free to add me K-pop fans! Or anyone else.
