In Topic: Farming The Unconscious

Personally in these types of discussions i feel that people should put themselves in the place of the animal and sort of ask themselves something along the lines of,

If i were born for the sole purpose of being processed in the slaughter house, would i want to be raised and fattened up conscious and suffering or would i rather have them lobotomize me the moment i was born so i wouldn't have to go through all that trauma (being raised in a cage smaller than me etc). [everyone going vegan and setting all the chickens free is not an option of course]

I don't agree with that. Firstly you're giving the chickens a human perception on the situation which alone is pointless. Secondly, by imagining yourself in their position you're no longer talking about whether animals should be kept in those conditions, but whether humans should, and applying your conclusion to the chicken scenario. In this case it's ok, but in other cases it can lead you to forget what these things are an alternative to, such as the "natural" method of dying - getting ripped to shreds by another animal and being eaten half-alive with guts hanging out..etc.

I think it's a great idea. Farming is going to happen regardless, and this is just another step to making it more humane.

And besides which, I'm pretty much stuck with a biased audience wherever I turn, short of sending out a nationwide survey on audiotape.

That's assuming that most survey participants complete the survey because they enjoy reading it. I don't know about you, but I don't know many people who read surveys for pleasure :p

I don't recommend tobacco vaporizers for breaking the habit--same motion, same shape of device, same high; doesn't make sense to me. I know a few who used it to quit effectively though. Either way, they are much healthier than cigarettes.

That's the idea. You can continue with the habbit, you can still get the nicotine, but you get rid of the other 10,000 harmful chemicals found in real cigarettes. You're supposed to lower the nicotine concentration in the filters as you go along to eventually quit.

They didn't work for me though. I tried two different ones and at first they were okay but I think that was because the mindset of "use this instead of real ones" was still strong. I was down to 1 cig a day then it just rose up again because these just don't do the job. Even if they worked really well, you can't change the fact you look like an absolute twat outside a club with one of these.

In Topic: Dad shoots .45 rounds in daughters laptop

Wait, did we watch the same video?

His daughter lives a privileged life. She has a laptop at 15? I never had a laptop at 15, and I'm not that much older than 15 now, in the big picture.

I might not have put 9 rounds at a dollar a piece into the laptop, but I would have sold the sucker and grounded the daughter just the same.

There are ways to deal with your children without creating a video and posting it on Youtube in an attempt to humiliate them.
