First, let's examine when this talk all began. The first time I noticed the increasingly pessimistic view of Neopia's future was around the time that most of TNT was sacked. I looked on the Neoboards, and saw that player morale after said firings was at an all time low. People were predicting the end days, quoting Mayan prophecies of certain doom, saying their final goodbyes to Neofriends, and taking screenshot after screenshot of their beloved pixelated creatures. Jellyneo even posted about it on their site, claiming to have an "inside source", who in all likeliness was probably as reliable as Neoleaks. Jellyneo droned on and on about Neopia's bleak future, and one staff member for their site even went as far as to say: "Dave thinks it will end, so it will probably end". Look, I don't know who the f*ck Dave thinks he is, but how the f*ck does he know if it's dying? Oh, and don't forget about Herdy. He was acting as if he was a prophet from the Lord, telling us that the end is nigh. Well, f*ck you too, Herdy, and your stupid Altador Cup fetish. Seriously, this guy goes into way much detail about the AC, and spends way too much time thinking about it. Funny thing is, he's wrong so often, he may as well be Neopia's own Skip Bayless.

Of course, then there was all the duping glitches. Neopia was in ruins, because, you know, we never got through shit like that before. I think any veteran players can recall back in 2004 or so, there was a similar glitch resulting in the duplication of multiple expensive items. 11 years later, we are still logging on to the site. People that predicted that this would cause the end of Neopia were wrong, as most "end of the world" predictors are. Does anyone remember the whole Year 2K thing involving the mass suicide because they thought they were going to die anyway? Yeah, we're still here.

People will often cite multiple other things as heralds of the apocalypse, such as broken features, users leaving in hordes, and the overall deterioration of things such as the Neoboards, Shopping/Trading/Auctioning, and the lackluster art jobs that have been released, especially recently, with the Staff Tournament prizes. First of all, I'd like to point out that most of those "broken features" have since been fixed. I can count maybe two major things that have yet to be repaired: the online users bar, and various games. Also, when people say that users are leaving in hordes, I have found no evidence of this. Alexa.com is a website that measures traffic on other websites and gives an analytics report based on those numbers. Neopets is the 6,138th most popular website in the world, at the time of writing. It's the 1,447th most popular website in the United States. These numbers are interesting, because, first of all, it shows that there has been an influx of users on Neopets recently, given it's world wide ranking. Second of all, it shows that Neopets is still more popular than millions of other sites around the world. Does that sound like a site that's dying to you? Also, if you look at the time spent on the site per user, it clocks in at about 30 minutes a day. That's very, very good, and that's why Neopets has in the past been described as a "sticky site". Again, it doesn't look like they are dying. Sure, it's harder to sell items. But I attribute that to the fact that Neopets is still recovering from a period of constant downtime, in which a lot of players DID leave. The art, I have no answer for. My guess is the people they hired from India (I'm guessing they outsourced) still do not know how to fully utilize the capabilities of the technology they have in place. Either that, or the technology just isn't that good to begin with.

Jumpstart is trying to revitalize a company that was going down the wayside. They have actually increased the site's visitors, and are working to push Neopia to other places, like your tablet or smartphone. Unlike Viacom, Jumpstart does seem to realize that Internet gaming is not what it used to be. Many websites are making or have already made the transition to portable technology. Jumpstart is trying to get Neopets on that ship, even though it really should have set sail a long time before Jumpstart ever came along. When David Lord says he won't close down the site, I believe him. He has made it clear that he and Jumpstart are trying to run a business. He has made moves that many businesses have chosen to do the past few years, like: outsourcing jobs to India or other foreign countries, firing/laying off people that aren't necessarily important to the business itself, or trying to bring the company down new roads.

Firing TNT may not have gone over well with some users, but it was necessary. It's an "out with the old, in with the new" type of policy. By getting rid of TNT, he is bringing in people with fresh ideas, and new things to bring to the site. The old TNT failed constantly to improve the many things wrong with the site, yet, when JS took over, we started to see things fixed. By eliminating staff that either weren't good at their jobs or just not necessary, Jumpstart is saving money and ushering in a new era of Neopets. He saw the potential, figured out who was and wasn't necessary to keep the site running, and got rid of the rest. It's really not all that complicated.

Jumpstart may not look all that competent at the moment, but given the fact that they have only had the site completely to themselves for three or four months now, it's not a surprise. I expect them to continue learning from their mistakes, just like any normal human being, and I think that four or five months down the road from now we will start to see some real improvement in multiple areas of the site. We're already witnessing the site rising, albeit slowly. It's only a matter of time before it rises to it's former glory, not dies. If anything, Neopet's future is looking brighter than it was a year ago. So please, before you start saying Neopets is a dying site, try to look at the facts that would normally accompany such a statement. Neopets is not dead, far from it. With a stronger advertising push to promote even more users to come to the site, and the fixation of multiple areas that are problematic at the moment, Neopets should continue to see growth. It's a business, and Jumpstart's finally starting to treat it like one. A lot of people accuse Valve of being greedy, as I just did above. They, I'm afraid, may be correct. I recently bought Skyrim for $26.99, including all the DLC. It said it was on sale because of the "Steam Summer Sale", and I thought: "sweet, I loved it for the PS3". So I forked over the cash for that and NBA 2K15, and spent about $40.00 total.

Five days later, of course, they drop the price for Skyrim down to $13.99, including the DLC. You can imagine how pissed I was that I could have gotten it a lot cheaper if those bastards at the Valve HQ had been a little less greedy. So I sent a request to Steam, wanting a refund for my game. I was okay with getting a refund, as I was going to purchase the game immediately afterward anyway.

But, Steam sent me an email saying I had logged over two hours of gameplay, and so they couldn't refund it. Are you serious, Valve? It takes a person two hours to decide whether they like a game or not, so how the @*&! are you going to sit there and say "we can't refund it"? I spent ten goddamn hours on it, and you're telling me that's way over the limit? Assholes.

No, it was a group of selfish no-lives, devoting their entire summer to playing countless hours of Yooyuball and it's far less exciting side game companions, that really controlled the podium. Or at least part of the podium. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that SOTAC and STEALTH were behind these huge victories by Kreludor, LD, and Virtupets. I felt betrayed by TNT, who had always told me to play my damn heart out for my team, when the only way to really win is to have some group like them helping you out.

I suppose it's a pretty ingenious idea, really. Get a couple hundred players to waste their summer maxing out on the games, and play for a really small team so that your group gains a majority over regular ACers. It almost ensures a victory for that team, but at what cost? Teams who don't have an ASG, as SOTAC and STEALTH have become known, have almost no chance of getting to the podium, much less beating these groups. Also, why should these ASGs determine what teams get on the podium each year?

The face of the Altador Cup changed when Team Codex joined Tyrannia in the 8th AC, and propelled them to astonishing heights. It was this Cup that I learned the extent of ASGs, and the sheer power of them. I soon learned, however, that Codex was not a traditionally "legit" group. You're all members of the site, and you all know what we do. Each and every one of us can be labeled as cheaters in the Neopian community, including myself.

Pretty soon, the ASGs couldn't even compete with the might of Codex, and they dominated everyone. In fact, the only groups that the ASGs could win against were other ASGs and clraik, a worthless cheating forum whose members aren't even very good at cheating.

Then came controversy. The Neoboards were outraged at all the "rampant cheating" that was taking place. I chimed in a few times as well, even though I was already focusing on becoming a member of their ranks. I remember that TNT promised change, promised an end to Codex's reign of superiority. It was a promise that was left unfulfilled.

In the 9th AC, Codex was even more dominant than their previous year, and they were using a much bigger team. I watched with fascination as the Neopets fanbase imploded, and witch-hunt after witch-hunt occured on the Neoboards (You're a member of Codex! etc...). Again, TNT had promised change, and had failed. I think it was then that I realized that if you can't beat them, join them. It wasn't a hard decision to make, really. It was simply the difference between a gold trophy and thousands upon thousands of prize points, or the chittlins I was earning playing legitimately.

This year, for the first time, I've tried to be as active as possible on Codex, and plan to continue to do so. It's funny, because I had always been against cheating, even though I was using multiple accounts to spin wheels and make neopoints that way. Now I don't even do that. I'm what the purest of Neopia's citizens would consider much worse. I autobuy, send scores, and generally try to cheat my way to success. But I just don't care anymore.

I'm sick of losing in the AC. I'm sick of not having enough prize points to get a stupid ass Yooyu, or that shitty little wig. I'm sick of playing hours and hours of Yooyuball, and not getting anywhere. I'm sick of not having money to buy that paintbrush. I'm sick of not having money to buy the things to restock so I can make money. I'm sick of having money but being to damn slow to restock so I can make more money. I'm sick of all that legitimate crap that they want you to do. I'm sick of thinking that winning the Tombola is the highlight of my Neopian day. I just want to win.

That, to me, is where Codex comes in. I can get those prize points, those Neopoints, and I can help a team win. I can do what I can to help get Kiko Lake, or whatever team Codex joins, to the top. Also, the community is a spot-on group of people, who are friendly, unique, and generally interesting to talk to. Comparing this forum to the Neoboards is like comparing Lebron James to a scrub on a Division II College.

I hope that Codex can crush the ASGs enough times, and by enough points, so that they may finally decide to give up on the Altador Cup entirely. Here's to hoping that SOTAC and STEALTH decide to disband after their past years of failure. Maybe after they're gone, getting to the podium will be an actual achievement, something to be proud of, because your team truly did compete.

The Altador Cup needs Codex. If not to give Neopians something to talk about, it will hopefully discourage other ASGs from competing. That in itself, would be an achievement. If my team got second on it's own merits, I would be ecstatic, to say the least. Maybe sometime down the road, the two teams placing after Codex will have gotten their because their fan base tried, not because a group of people took them there.

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble? Lol, I used to want to play a bunch of online games, and my Dad used to get pissed at me. I don't know why lol.
When was the last time you had an amazing meal? Chinatown, San Fransisco, California. 2011. I had the best duck you could have without going to China itself. They make excellent roast duck.
What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received? Best gift given: Ray Charles concert tickets, before he died. Worst gift given: a mug. Best gift received: tickets to a Kanye West concert in Chi-town (Chicago). Worst gift received: underwear.
What do you miss most about being a kid? No worries, or responsibilities.
What is your first memory of being really excited? When I found out I was going to Florida to go to Universal Studios for the first time.
What was the first thing you bought with your own money? My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, an album by Kanye West.
When was the last time you were nervous? My last job interview, so about a year ago.
What is something you learned in the last week? Tom Cruise is a Scientologist. I know, where have I been the past ten years, right?
What story does your family always tell about you? When I was in highschool, my history teacher had a guillotine in his room, and I put my head in the hole, and it got stuck. Everyone was taking pictures of it, and the teacher had to go to the Woodshop room and get a screwdriver to take apart the guillotine so I could get out. Needless to say that was the worst twenty minutes of my High School years. Luckily the guillotine wasn't real.
At what age did you become an adult? I'm still not really an "adult". Real adults don't go around rapping Kanye West songs and fucking up teenagers on the basketball court. My basketball skills are bouncing off the wall compared to those youngins.
Is a picture worth a thousand words? Elaborate. No. You've got a picture of a wall. A plain white wall. It's a fucking wall. I don't think I can think of twenty words to describe a fucking wall.
