Let's Groove, Baby

A few weeks back, I got a new toy; a 'Zoom B3' (an effects pedal for my bass). It's pretty dope.

Pics!

Spoiler

It's got a bunch (~111, I think) of effects (of which you can combine 3 at a time), some of which are really good, some of which are incredibly crappy. My particular un-favourite is the 'Bomber' effect. I thought that it might be able to reproduce the intro to 'One', by Metallica, with it, but all it does it make crappy handgun, explosion, or thundercrash effects, and they don't even change in tone, no matter which note you play! Thankfully there are plenty of good effects to compensate for that.

So, yeah, it's pretty damn good value for £110. I also got some free recording software with it, and recorded my own cover of Earth, Wind and Fire's 'Let's Groove Tonight':

I'm using all of the 3 effects shown in the second pic above: Filter, Phaser+Distortion and 'Ensemble'/Chorus. Although the song is extremely easy to play (it took me about 5 minutes to learn, if that), I feel proud of my recording job. I even mixed it in with the original track and did a half-decent fade out at the end.

Of course, now that I'm a star, feel free to send your panties, love notes, pubic hair, bodily fluids, marriage proposals, etc via post.

I'm in a band; 'Leucistic'. It's currently composed of myself, the bassist (and leader, of sorts), my guitarist Luke (a.k.a. Kirk) and my drummer, Chelsie. And now, after a few months on hiatus - due to timing, other commitments getting in the way, lack of a space to practice, etc - we're back together, and what's more, we have our old kickass practice room!

Spoiler

Since we were last there, the whole place has had a renovation. (It looks swank as hell now.) Anyway, as a part of this renovation, they've also fitted the place with yet another drumkit (making it up to 3 now), a ~ £250 guitar effects unit - which made Kirk very excited - a full set of PA, and a couple of really nice chairs also. But of course, they didn't think to restring any of the guitars... or acquire another bass guitar, for that matter. I think I'll probably have to buy some spare strings and restring the guitars that are there myself.

Spoiler

Of course, actually just getting back together/playing together was just fantastic. I forgot how good we all were together!

Additionally, I was talking to one of the volunteers at the youth centre where we practice, and he mentioned that we might be able to play at some of the functions hosted by other youth centres in the area, which would be awesome; we'd get be getting out there, gaining some experience, having fun, getting ourselves known, etc... maybe even getting a paid gig or two!
