right now i switched accounts on abrosia and litterally 20 seconds in i bought two things and then it idled at "waiting for restock band to pass checking in 15 minutes" or soomething along those lines. I stopped and started it again and its working fine. But then again you said you are using an "old" ABer... im guessing something other than abrosia. In which case... thats what you get ^_^

Yes it is very profitable. But you need to take into consideration the shop you are in. I have tried to clear Merifood's down to 12 items and keep it there for a couple hours hoping to get a Draik egg... I ended up with so much worthless crap. I just donated the lot of it.

You refresh after the shop stocks which causes the people who refresh sooner to see them faster. When you've missed one item it's likely someone else has already initiated buying the following 6 before you.
