My anti-virus has taken over 10 hours and counting to scan my whole computer. I must have a ton of crap on it.

Because my computer is actually quite fast. My anti-virus just scans everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, that's on my computer. (it has to scan both my windows 8 and my mac sides of my computer).
