yes i think lots of people are. If someone send you a gift you can recieve it via the "item transfer log" on your inventory page. Neomail can be check through the neomails link and trade lots can be check through the trading post. :)

You can explore, make weapons, Build houses, make medicines, etc. I highly recommend getting lots of villagers and making them explorers first.
