So I get there 20 minutes early. Then a 10 minutes later a guy know from a long time comes in. Was hilarious.

Then we sit down, they show an orientation movie. Then after they say go get some coffee get comfortable we'll be calling names shortly. Second name of the day, I'm set up. About 50 others go up too. Then they question 21 randoms on the bench. Takes till 12, lunch. Get back they dismiss some. Then refill from the rest of the people available that were sitting there in the audience. 2nd batch up, questioning goes much faster. Ok dimiss some more. Then 3rd batch. A little slow. Then wow a 4th call. They were down to like 10 people. Loooots of people that couldn't speak English well.
Out of like a few people I didn't get called. Took alllllllllllllllll day but man it was a good experience. Feel bad for the defendent. They were going to argue state of mind and I understand how crazy, unbalanced, and idiotic women are and at some times just way more, and I was ready to let her go. Felt so bad for her, I felt she learned her lesson. 24(ish) year old. Today was just juror decision though so we heard very little but yeah, took forever. But I'm good for 1 year now at least!

Anyways sooo need to sleep I was up since 6am! :( GNite ppl! Well soon gnite..

I spent 3 weeks on jury duty earlier this year and it was the most boring experience of my life.

Just do what Liz Lemon from 30rock does:

Dress up as Princess Lea and say "I don't think it's fair for me to be in jury duty, 'cause I can read Miiiinndsss"

HAHA I wouldn't try that. I think a jury could use someone fair like me. :p

I'm Canadian too. I know it sounds stupid but do we ever get jury duty? I've only heard of it through American television and not actually from real life experience.

Pleading insanity is the oldest trick in the book :p

They probably put you off the jury because the opposing attorney didn't want you :p Jury duty is boring but not as boring as grand jury duty.

my sister got called on jury duty once, but she had an exam that couldn't be rescheduled :p I can't remember if she got out of it or she just skipped and fled the country and went back to China (i'm thinkin' the former)

I had a friend avoid Jury Duty by telling them he was a racist. Not sure if it's true or not, but I guess the wouldn't let anyone who has an obvious bias on the panel.

This works. I've had a friend get out by saying he was biased to certain races. I know its what I'll do when I get summoned.

Doesn't work here. Friend of mine tried it last year and was told to report anyway and they could raise it as a problem if they were assigned to a case where it was an issue.

Why are you guys so apt to try to "get out" of jury duty?

I loved the shit out of my only jury duty service... It's nice to live in a country with an adequate judicial system where you can actually be tried by your peers instead of ruled to death my some authoritarian. I am more than happy to serve my nation. ;)

Because its a pain in the butt. Getting up early and sitting through all that crap to MAYBE get on the jury. And then heaven forbid its a big case because then you miss job time and stuff, who are only obligated to pay for so long (I think)
