If I had 6 apples, how many oranges would I have?
Who is older, a baby or their mother?
Does a star have 5 points or 9001?
If you are a bot answer 'SIGNMEUP', otherwise put "i solemnly swear that i am up to no good".

I've setup a Q&A captcha for my site.
Asks simple things like
"What is the last word in this sentence?"
"2+2"
"2+3+1"
Has to give the correct response in order to register. Not fool proof but hopefully better than the captcha
And how hard is it to detect, what is 2+2 and automatically put 4? You should make it randomly generate a number, and then put up the two numbers that add up to that number. That way its random, and they have to work harder.
But its still really easy since all programming languages naturally do math. All they have to do is pull the numbers and they have the signup.
Probably the best way is to have dynamically changing sign up code. So they cant actively pull the information they need to sign up.

Even some basic questions based on sums can beat most of these bots because they just aren't coded to do them in the first place. Ready made spam bots just expect the regular default sign up process and aren't likely to be customised just to deal with one site which has additional questions added.

This is the truth. All the interesting bots out there have workarounds for many different validation/captchas, but those make up such a small portion of the general traffic.Even some basic questions based on sums can beat most of these bots because they just aren't coded to do them in the first place. Or just add it to the signature so that it retroactively adds it to every post and proactively adds it to every future post.

I added a question/answer thing a couple hours ago and they seem to have gone away. Good.
Huzzah!
Can we teach them to contribute to the community, too?
