Ok, so, this habit is getting worse and worse... I start pretty much every assignment the night it's due and the worst part is, I always do well on 'em... What gives? Who else struggles with procrastination? What do you do about it? What can I do about it? I feel that as long as I'm still being successful in school and whatnot that I'll never see the need to change my ways, but the kind of stress you put on yourself by doing things so last-minute seems so unnecessary, so I'd like to get into better work habits. =/

EDIT: Making this topic instead of starting my Law paper that's due on Tuesday, by the way. -_-;

That's just what happens to me -.-
I arrive tired and hungry from school and basket, and then I eat, and then I can't concentrate on any assignment until it's very late.

But I'm trying to take a break and watch anime/TV series on internet before a little before getting to do my assignments, and I think it's working.
I don't know how to explain it, but if I try to do my assignments inmediately I just can't, but if I take a break, after that I can do assignments better :)

I got a huge essay and presentation due Tuesday. It was give 2 weeks ago but I was too busy to start early. I pulled off a lot of all nighters because I procrastinate WAY too much. I talked to a psychologist and they said start off by making a planner and doing big projects or studying for tests by small pieces each day (like reading and taking notes, brainstorming on projects). I am planning to work on my essay tomorrow morning so I don't have to stay up all night.

I had the entire weekend to do homework and I barely just started.
and yet I'm procrastinating again by coming on neocodex / going on neopets. ):
I would go on a hiatus but the purge is going on and I want to stalk names~
that's why I was super devastated when the purge started again for the 3rd time

I know exactly what you mean! I have a test and project that was due LAST week and I have a big test tomorrow. And I need to wake up in 6 hours. Ugh.

    I struggle with procrastination too.

The best method for me is to think about the benefits of doing my work early.

I did this whilst at university. I'd tell you how I broke out of the habit, but I was still putting the finishing touches on my masters' dissertation on the day it was due. So yeah.

I got out of my calculus class last week and started my homework due this week almost immediately...
Doing homework in school always helps because there are so many distractions at home. If you bring your work to a library and study with a friend it also helps too.
Once you start realizing how great it feels to be done with work without stressing over it, you never want to procrastinate again :p

Its ok to do it in high school, but you walk into college thinking youre invincible and then you get hit HARD when you realize you can't possibly cram everything into one night anymore. Learned THAT the hard way :p

Doing any kind of work requring the use of the computer = procrastination. Which is pretty much any sort of work these days.

I perform best under pressure. I like to think ahead to my projects, though, so once I finally get around to doing it, I can still do pretty well :p

I try to do assignments as soon as they've been given out. Additionally, I only go on my favorite sites once I finish my homework so there aren't as many distractions.

Ya, going to a library would probably be a great idea; it's just kinda getting there. I can't really work at school cuz I've got extracurricular activities going on a lot of the time, so I should make an effort to get somewhere without the glorious, shiny, electronic distractions at home. I can stop myself from playing video games when things need to be done, but I can't resist both those AND the computer -- especially when the work is done on the computer, which is almost always the case. =/

posting in this topic instead of doing work.

I too am terrible with procrastination. It's getting to the point I stay after school and come early to school just so I can get my work done without all the distractions that home gives me lol.

I procrastinate on the things I don't want to do...like math...my writers course (I like to write) has an assignment due two months from now and I'm practically done o.0 My math is due tomorrow.....and I don't think I'm gonna do it.....:p

    Pomodoro technique.

I just googled this and it's pretty neat. I'll be giving it a try.

Right now I just force myself to the library at school to get my work done but since that's not really an option for you... Is the internet required for any work to be done? If not, best to just disconnect the wifi, or have someone change the password for you.

I use to study with my girlfriend and she would hit me pretty hard every time she noticed that I was on a site that wasn't study related. Eventually I just stopped going on the internet with my laptop. I got a pretty big bruise at first and I came home one day and my mom saw. I told her my girlfriend beats me, as a joke to my mother and she thought I was serious Posted Image

I always say I'll do it on the weekends when I'm not tired.. but then the weekend comes and I have better things to do. I hate homework, and Neopets is waaay too addictive.

This. I always say I'm gonna do my shit on the weekends and it never happens except for late Sunday night if things are due on Monday.

EDIT: Also checking out the Pomodoro Technique...

I was planning on responding to this thread, but I kept putting it off. Guess this shit's contagious! :p
The only thing in my life I really NEED to do is go to work, and all I have to do is show up and start running. So I'm not much of a procrastinator because everything else I do is really optional anyway. I'm sure if I went to school, there'd be a few issues because I'd rather be on Neopets or Codex, but luckily I don't have that problem.

I was bad in high school. Used to do assignments a night or two before no matter how big the assignment.

Now that I'm in college I do it the hour before class starts xD

My procrastination is weird: I always start thing WAYYY in advance, but never finish it till the day before. Like I had 3 reports due this week, so I started them last week wednesday. By saturday I was only missing maybe 20 minutes left of each report (I did them simultaneously) so I took Sunday off and now I'm trying to finish them off now. I had all of sunday to do it, but I can never completely finish things early :p

I have one report left where all I have to do is cite sources due thursday, but I know I'm not going to do it till 10:00 PM wednesday :p

Luckily I'm in the same boat as Punk, which is going to work and doing the job, so I don't have anything important to put off and eventually never do.

Though, I'm still a terrible procrastinator, I got a ton of games built up that I want to play but never do, like for example, Persona 4 came out at the end of 2008, and I JUST got around to actually playing it.

    Same goes for anime.
