The only thing that's happened to me is I sleep on my arms wrong and they go to sleep and I have to wake up and toss them around to get the blood flowing again. First time it happened I FREAKED cause I thought I had loss the use of my arms, lolz.

Did you just say you took a course on sleeping and dreaming?
Yeah, I tried those methods (constantly checking if you're dreaming, settling alarms, playing music, etc.) but I rarely dream and when I do I never notice any external signals or remember to check if I'm dreaming or not :(
There's another method to enter lucid dreaming without losing consciousness (basically by just waiting for your body to fall asleep) but I can never do it either. Feels bad man.
I just wanted to point out that another sign that you're dreaming is that you can't see your hands, which I've heard is the easiest way to check if you're dreaming or not.
I've been pretty obsessed with this topic for a while but still unable to do anything

Sleep paralysis = bad trips, and lucid dreaming = controlling dreams, which is what they do in inception so we really only talked about 2 topics.

In addition to the immobility, the common symptoms include feeling choked or suffocated, hearing strange noises like footsteps and voices, seeing beings or dark shadows, and feeling an existence of someone in the room.

OMG! all this time i thought it was my imagination in full control as i try to wake up. Had NOOO idea what i was experiencing was shared by others.
My sleep paralysis consists of a random man/woman with an unhealed vital wound from 3 years ago. They are usually holding something in their hand and if I look away for an INSTANT then I risk allowing them to come closer to me so they can harm me. I know they aint real but they always look so real and i am still too sleepy to come up with any logic. By the time it ends I'm usually still too afraid to get out of bed for fear they will reappear.

I remember having a dream when I was younger. There were three kids besides me, and we all wanted a slice of this sandwich. So the person holding it put it on the table, but we are all so hungry and greedy that we want to get the first and biggest! So when the sandwich is cut we then realize (Due to blood) that someone had their hand under it, but no one is screaming or crying. Next thing I know I'm removing my hand from under the sandwich. My hand is sliced in half down the middle (between the bird and ring finger) and one side falls outward, the other inward. There is no blood though.

I had another dream where no matter what I touched I got electrocuted. Usually a sharp yet painful tingle. I remember looking at my hands in one part of the dream and seeing them covered in blisters.

I had yet ANOTHER dream where I had turned into a guy and just had to go to the bathroom. 'nuff said.

I think thats all the dreams I can think of atm where I could see a hand or both my hands... so the "check for hands" think doesn't always work.

Oh dear god. I hate when this happens. :X Luckily it hasn't happened for a while though. I really don't have any dream associated with it though, that I can recall anyways.

As for the topic of Lucid Dreaming, it's on my to do list. :o Haven't gotten around to trying to get to a point where I can Lucid Dream. ;)

Lucid dreaming always seemed like a cool idea in theory, but apparently it takes a lot of training to be able to do anything close to approximating it.

One thing I've always had a mild curiosity in, while we're on the topic of sleep experiments, is the uber-man sleep schedule. Basically you take 20 minute naps at 4 hour intervals, sleeping a total of 2 hours per day. Apparently after you survive the brutal 2 week acclimation period, you function completely normally and feel well-rested, so you can basically sleep only 2 hours a day. Imagine all of the new productivity!

Sleep paralysis can be a scary thing if you've never experienced it. I've woken up in the middle of the night and had been sleep paralyzed which sucked when I was young as it'd happen often. I have also be "sleep" paralyzed when attempting to have a lucid dream using the WILD method. The latter of the two isn't bad as it needs to happen in order to induce the dream state so you get used to it.

WILD is fairly easy for lucid dreaming. Especially when you wake up in the middle of the night from a dream. All you need to do after that
is lie STILL (don't move at all) close your eyes and keep your mind conscious. That is the hardest part as if you don't do that you fall right back asleep and can't induce lucidity.
