Not sure if you would really call it a sequel since it's when to me they took a more comical view rather than trying to make it a horror movie like the first two but my vote is for Evil Dead, Army of darkness.

What is the prequel to Dark Knight? I thought it was it's own set of Batman movies, with the sequel coming out.. well... idk.

Bad Boys 2 was a lot better than the original though.

Yes, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is the greatest movie of the trilogy.
To me Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is better than the The Curse of the Black Pearl.
And finally, Toy Story 3 is just as great as the original Toy Story... maybe better.

The prequel to Dark Knight is Batman Begins, where the story of the origins of batman is told. It's a decent movie, but not great imo.

This. This is probably one of the only sequel movies I can think of that is almost or is as great as the original.

And Shrek 2. Although that wasn't as good as the original, I thoroughly enjoyed it. (But you're right, they should've stopped there)

The only one I can think of is Batman, though I loved both Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. I usually don't like superhero movies, I just like those and Ironman.

Hmmm... interesting topic.

The problem I foresee is that most sequels are made because the first movie was successful and enough of the sets, actors or effects are similar to the first one that production costs can be kept down. Unfortunately that means the quality usually suffers as a result.

One movie that comes to mind is Clerks II, although it's kitschy, it has a lot of heart. Also, I dunno if we're including animated movies, but I really liked the second Ghost in the Shell movie. Well, everything about that series really.

Seconding Toy Story series, but I vote for 3. Just the animation itself is spectacular. <3
