Yung's Guide to the Smuggler's Cove!

Posted Image

The Smuggler's Cove may seem like an enigma, you hear about amazing items being stocked there but you always seem to miss them yourself? No need to fear that there is something wrong and you just can't see them I will explain how the Smuggler's Cove works.

Announcement:
TNT will post in the New Features that a new item has been released into the cove.

The post will look something like this:

You may have to do a little searching to find the latest Battledome item. We heard it was available in a secret cave somewhere far away...

This is your cue to go gather up your dubloons and find a good Cove Thread. Since Cove Items are usually Battledome equipment the Battledome threads are where you should lurk. You can normally find out quickly how much a Cove Item costs from the first thread you find. The Frozen Cyrodrake Shield depicted above is a prime example, it cost 300 Dubloon Coins.

Restocking:
You don't need exact change so you didn't need to have exactly 300 dubloons to purchase one you just needed to have at least 300 dubloons. The first Frozen Cyrodrake Shield I restocked I had 302 dubloons on hand.

When you restock is on the minute, as it restocks randomly on the minute. It could restock at :02 minutes past the hour and then again at :03 minutes past the hour... or it could restock at :19 minutes past the hour and not restock again that hour. It is random.

It is VERY easy to get restock banned, these bans typically last 30-60 minutes. You could get restock banned anywhere from 1-12 refreshes (speaking from personal experience), however I usually get banned after 1 or 2 refreshes. I literally had 12 bans in a row where I had only a single refresh. In other words, I clicked on the Smuggler's Cove at 09:17 and there was nothing there. At 09:18 I click again only to find I have been restock banned.

If you see this image it means you are restock banned:
Posted Image

Strategy When You See an Item:

Be ready to click whenever you refresh, hover your mouse cursor under the boat and press F5, as it is refreshing move your hand into position to quickly press enter. If you see that there is an item there click and then hit enter. I've missed items before by mixing up the order of my clicking and enter pushing. You have roughly < 1.6 seconds to click and hit enter so just be ready when you see it. (This is based on the average time reported by users)

How Many and How Often?

The Smuggler's Cove restocks only a single copy of the item on the random minute. Since there is only one there you want to ensure that you are the one that gets it.

The Smuggler's Cove generates 100~120 of the item, as soon as it hits its max the item is "semi-retired" which means it is technically retired but TNT has, at their discretion, released an additional 20 into the populace.

Who is This Valuable to?

First and foremost Battledomers, often times these items are extremely powerful, this is after all where the Super Attack Pea came into existence from. The second group is collectors. The final group are investors. I am not counting Avatar Collectors as to date only the Super Attack Pea gives an avatar.

  • Battledome Collectors
  • Battledome Investors
  • Smuggler Cove Collectors
  • Smuggler Cove Investors

Closing Notes:
The main thing to consider when trying to decide whether or not it is worth attempting to go for a Smuggler's Cove item consider this:

I bought 3 One Hundred Dubloon Coins at 90k each. That is 270k. I bought a Frozen Cyrodrake Shield that is currently worth 20mil. This is a profit if I sold just one right now of 19,730,000 NP. Due to the collectors and users of these items however it is quite common for them to rise very high in value over time. The Super Attack Pea restocked there for only 200 dubloons and is now worth an estimated 1.2 billion Neopoints on the current market. That is 1,200,000,000 NP.

EDIT: (August 22nd, 2012)

Pro advice for restocking the cove.

What you need to do is make sure that you already at least/more than enough dubloons to buy the item that is restocking.
  • Click the url bar to highlight the url.
  • Have the mouse hanging out centered where the item should restock. There will be only one so it will always restock there.
  • Wait for the time you're wanting to refresh, click enter when you are ready.
  • Immediately click when the page refreshes.
  • Immediately press enter AFTER clicking.
If an item restocked then odds are you bought it. Congrats, you are now a pro at restocking the Smuggler's Cove. They should make an avatar to show how pro you've become.

Well you're not going to find anything there right now as there is nothing left for it to restock. Just keep an eye on the New Features page and as soon as you see something pertaining to the quote in the first post then that is when you want to try and get your hands on something. It was 5 days ago that the Frozen Cyrodrake Shield was released and as such the last one stocked 2 days ago. There won't be any more unless TNT decides to release more but that isn't going to happen over the weekend when there is no one there. Sorry to disappoint. Just try and be ready for the next time that it happens. :)

Nice guide. but I do have a question...

How do you know when the item has been sold out (ie all 120 items have been sold)

Oh and roughly, how often are new items released?

This

I stand corrected. Thanks. Wait, All images that are displayed in the Battledome Challenger Submissions section are protected by copyrights.

This doesn't say anything about the Neopets General Guides section.

Anyway, why not just link people to guides that have already been made on JN/TDN? You're trying to help i know, but you're also just enabling the lazy from doing some research themselves.

Just pay attention to the threads and you'll have a good idea, most people post and keep count so there is usually a pretty good estimate of where it stands with how many are left.

I asked Waver Lave if he would mind if I made it. He said he didn't mind and so I made it.

Its just a quick reference guide here on site so if someone looks up Smuggler's Cove it will pop up and they wont have to make status updates regarding it. I know I don't 90% of my research here on site before going to JN or TDN even though I frequent the TDN boards as well. I find our material to be richer and I like to +Rep people who have put substantial effort into adding content here and that is my own little way of contributing to our community.

Oh i see... well i just bought 1,000 dubloons for nothing then lol. anyways. hey i was wondering when they actually do have things there instead of "refreshing" couldn't you just click where it sais "take me back to krawk island" and use the clock on the neopets website... wait untill 1 second before the new minute and click on the cove again. So your not technically refreshing a page as much as "revisiting" i just did that for about 30 minutes straight and didnt get banned.... before you told me there was nothing there lol

Not for nothing just save those dubloons for the next Smuggler's Cove item release. :)

It still counts a "refresh" every time you go there. You just got really lucky with making it so long without a ban. I envy you. :p

Thank you for saying this. Most of BDC still believe that just because they re-released 20 of each cove item at the time meant the new limit is 120. It is a rumor that won't die.

Yeah its really very useful and easy to make millions off a single restock if you are lucky.

There are plenty of guides here for you to use to help you make Neopoints that way whenever another Smuggler's Cove item is released you will have plenty of Dubloons on hand. ;)

Really informative, I never knew lol. Thank you.

I was wondering though, is there an easier way to find out when it's restocking? I would have thought someone would have a site that informs you when sales are on or something similar.

If you pay attention it's nigh impossible to miss when a Smuggler's Cove item is released. We'll all be talking about it.

Should I update this guide to include the new item, Face Mace instead of the Frozen Cyrodrake Shield? I don't think it makes much of a difference but...
