Alright,

So a lot of you are aware that validation is not currently working; along with every other type of emailing service on codex... This is not limited to, but includes:
  • User Validation
  • Email / Password Changes
  • Topic / PM Notifications
  • Profile Posts
  • Topic Quoted...

Because of this, i have removed validation until the issue is fixed. All users who registered in the past 2 months (and have not yet been validated) have been moved over to the Member usergroup with no real notification... If you still require validation, email me at [email protected]

You might have also noticed that there is quite a bit of lag on the site. This "lag" is generated when someone does an action that would normally produce an email, so not to worry... Our "Programmers" (ex-admins) are on the case right now :)

Thanks and we apologize for all the inconvenience this has caused.

The ex-admins still work on the site programming?

But, that means we can still blame everything that goes wrong on noit!

    Huzzah!

Thank you, this is very useful!

P.s. you spelled validation wrong :)

EDIT: Nevermind you beat me to correcting it!

That was my first thought tbh, but we've got new mods now who're online often enough :p

It's mostly just Hydro and I now. :/ Noit is busy working on Firefox extensions in his free time. :p

Well, I was originally referring to Kway too. I forgot that his "Moderator" rights came from being a Programmer.
But I also feel that you were a poor choice too, if it helps.

Sweeney has no mercy for anyone, just pure criticism.

I think Boggy is pretty decent; he at least does things. Toxic on the other hand, was definitely just there.

We'll see how Strat and Nymh do.

edit: I didn't read what I put at all.

    Where deserved...
False praise is of no use to anyone.

(P.S. I thought switching off the email notifications was intended to fix this infernal lag? It hasn't worked.)

Alright, I can agree to that Sweens.

As for this email issue, has it been happening since the year change or just last month?

Smeh. I take my mod job super serious and the fact you disapprove greatly knocks at my self-esteem

I think they only disabled the validation of new accounts, not the entire email notification process.

    I don't disapprove of you. You're a fine person.
You're just not who I would choose as moderator material, as the above quote partly serves to demonstrate.
I disapprove of the choice, not you.

I think they only disabled the validation of new accounts, not the entire email notification process.

I thought Pyro's reply to Sarah above indicated otherwise, but I could well be wrong.

Why don't you just use an external SMTP server to deliver mail if the current server isn't equipped to do so?

That's what we're doing -- using Amazon's SMTP server. I imagine that the PHP code is trying to connect to Amazon's server but can't and times out, hence the lag. I just need to look into it a little bit to figure out wtf is going on.
