We will not engage in deep packet inspection or any network management practice that would necessarily favor a particular application, content, or service.

That's nice. :)

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't care if google did inspect my packets. All they would find is a ton of porn. What ELSE would you do with 1 Gb/s internet...

The status icon shows how fast your NIC port is. You're not actually getting 100 Mbps. Try http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast it actually is.

    'Hello!

Free internet seemed too good to be true, the way the website was displayed made it seem like the 1 Gb/s was free

    But of course not :/

No it's not?... Where on earth did you get that idea. It's completely free, you just pay a one-time construction fee of $300 + taxes.

Which is really a bargain. I'm just hoping that they bring it further than Kansas City.

Where does it say it's only free for the first month?

Up to 5Mbps download, 1Mbps upload speed • No data caps • Free service guaranteed for at least 7 years • Includes Network Box

$300 construction fee (one time or 12 monthly payments of $25) + taxes and fees

I don't even see a small asterisk beside the $0/mo, so I see absolutely nothing that says it's free for only the first month.

Everything I've read says that they guarantee the free internet service for at least 7 years, I can't see anything about it only being for a month.

I wasn't suggesting to read the small print for that though, rather, that Google tends to know how to make money out of every venture they start so there must be some way that they're generating profit from even the free users.

The terminals are rigged to absorb souls, which they sell to the Murdoch family to replenish their life force.

What in the hell would possess you to think that a much faster internet service than has largely ever been implemented for public use in the USA would be free? I stated the pricing in my original post indicating the prices... I even linked to the plans and pricing page!

Get virgin. 100mb/s, phone and all tv shows is like £90 a month, plus it's going up to 120mb/s soon. Obviously you can custom make it to make it cheaper.

But dang, $300 for seven years of internets?? That's a great deal~ Can't wait for it to be in more places than just Kansas ^^

Damn if that were in my city I would be all over it. actually I don't even think it would be available to me, for some reason in the apartment complex I live in we're only allowed to get cox cable. It's really annoying.

Talked to my pops today about this, and he said that Google was a little ambitious about this project, launched it too early, and didn't really handle it right for Kansas City KS/MO. They're at this time only offering it to residents of the city of Kansas City, MO/KS, which would make sense in most cities in America. However Kansas City has one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, while the population within the ACTUAL city of Kansas City is relatively small. So while I can SEE not only Kansas City, but downtown Kansas City from my home, Google fiber isn't offered in my area. Not a huge deal because I know it will be soon, but still, Google should have included the metropolitan area in the initial release in my opinion.

I find that hard to believe, especially when there's a shift towards P2P servers.
