I sometimes wonder if these practices don't produce a very mild reflection of how it might feel to live in North Korea.

Haha! Probably does, too! :D

I mentioned The Daily Neopets website before it was unallowed. I also got a warning for asking for person's last name when her last name was in her user name.  I  thought it would be funny to ask her it because it's in her username.  She neomailed me back saying she wouldn't tell and to have fun being frozen.  That's how I got permantly silenced but I didn't get frozen.

They're hot and cold. They freeze people for mentioning Codex but they haven't frozen the girl that made a board called I BOUGHT MY ACTIVE FOR $160.

That's probably a mod and not a bot.

I called someone a meepitflipper and got warned. /shrug

It wasn't really a warning, but I got a 'friendly reminder' that giveaways weren't allowed when I made a few junk trades that said 'free' on them.

I remember sending multiple messages to my main account from a side just to see how it looked when you tried to neomail a user whose inbox was full.

    ...Silly reason.

My account got suspended because they thought it was a bot sending messages? bleh

I was shitting on TNT through the form of a neomail, managed to get it sent to someone else without tripping off any filters. Needless to say I was warned for using insults shortly after that.

Gestapo TNT probably has itself secretly auto flagged so they can read neomails and posts directly.

Yeah, I'm trying to get a lot more cautious about when I complain about TNT in my guild and in neomail because of how much I suspect TNT is big brother. It's like thoughtcrime if you get caught stepping out of line.

Of course, the absurdity of this site's administration began to make a lot more sense when I realized it's run by a cult. Just google neopets and scientology :-/

I kind of think the fact that the staff treats site members a certain way says a lot about the way dissent, creative thinking, and outside ideas are handled in-house at neopets HQ. I wonder if there are staff members who use this site and cheat the site intentionally because they're so fed up with the way things are there. I also think the draconian measures are just to keep older users from making it look 'cool' to bash TNT since so many kids play the game, and TNT has to be pretty aware of how impressionable their young audience is.

Edit: why make you guys do the work? Here's a link to the thing I read on Kotaku complete with a little paragraph from a former employee: http://kotaku.com/14...g=gamingneopets

Wow, I had no idea that Neopets was affiliated(?) with Scientology!  That's actually quite interesting... Wonder what they'd do if you mention it on the boards?  Auto ice or conversion?

I'm going to test that out. I have a couple of accounts I want iced and if they're really scientologists I know for a fact they'd freeze me right away.

They'll freeze you for anything to do with sensitive matters, not just scientology.

Look up Barack, Obama, Religion, Jesus... they're all inappropriate.

But scientology is something that should be EXTRA sensitive for them, right? I mean Doug Dohrig is a major scientologist and apparently people who work for Neopets all have to submit to some sort of freaky personality test. http://neoland.ninom...org/user25.html

I just posted a bunch of facts about scientology and was silenced within 5 minutes. The swiftness prob had to do with me calling Dohrig the "embodiment of evil" too though, so.... :p

They're automated bots now, I think... srsly though it's like 1984 up in there. Instead of actual people monitors we have straight up RoboCops.

They silence you for stuff like that nowadays, I think. O.o The other day I compared rl oil with the obelisk and I didn't get warned (and that would deserve a warning but I live on the neoedge), in that same post someone said she was fed up of soccer moms like me that ruin the fun on the site trying to find a deep story on a simple and fun war and she didnt get warned either, even when I brought some friends to report her (once I made a quick search to find out what a soccer mom is). They claim that boards are monitored 24/7 but it doesnt seem to be true. Or some of them are lazy. :p

I've heard that they don't rely much on human monitors, but rather on the Neo community to report unsuitable content that their bots don't flag.
