So, I'm moving to Philadelphia in less than a month. I have never been to Philadelphia. I do not know anything about the city. Is there anyone who does who might be able to make some suggestions about where to live and how to find a place to live without actually visiting first?

Also, for anyone who has made a big, gigantic move, do you have any suggestions for things that I absolutely must bring besides the obvious things like clothes and toiletries? I'm planning on bringing all of my cookware and plates and stuff. I'm driving out there so I'll have some space, as long as my roommate gets her parents to ship her harp.

I've moved across the country into a dorm before so I have some ideas about what I need and don't need but this is a little bit diffierent. I mostly just need help figuring out where to live! We will both be very poor and anything more than $1200-$1500 is probably out of our price range.

I always seem to forget my cleaning products, laundry supplies, etc.

Some ideas of things to bring as opposed to being shipped:
    • Laundry hamper/basket
    • Hammer/screwdriver/etc for hanging up pictures and the like...
    • Microwave/other kitchen appliances (toaster, etc.)
    • Don't forget your movies/games/etc
I've also found that personalizing your place as soon as possible really helps. Putting up posters/pictures and making it feel as close to home as possible for yourself tends to balance out the feeling of emptiness new places seem to have. Everyone I've met from Philadelphia seemed to love it; I hope you do as well!

    Best of luck to you!
