I love Tim Horton's coffee. I've had to try other coffee shops sometimes when there wasn't a timmy's nearby but they've always been subpar. Blenz is not bad though.

I started a new job today and they located next door to a starbucks. I've never tried star bucks before so I went in, ordered a venti medium roast, poured in a bunch of cream and bunch of sugar. It tasted terrible, way too bitter, adding more sugar and cream didn't do anything. Smelled kinda foul too. Nursed it about half-way then tossed in the trash.

Did I do something wrong in the preparation, or is that what it's supposed to taste like? They've got to be that popular and overpriced for a reason.(tim horton's XL is bigger than the venti and 30 cents cheaper)

Most of the coffee at starbucks sucks... Their beans are generally charred and almost bitter. (Their coffee also has waaayyyy more caffeine than most cups around.) Most people that I know that frequent Starbucks drink their espresso based drinks. (Which happen to be tasty... generally because they are mostly milk.)

Starbucks does have a Reserve line of coffees which happen to (on the most part) be very, very good single estate beans. I've had nearly every one of their reserve coffees by the half pound and have went through them all. (I give preference to Guatemalan or Ethiopian Coffees....) I also do import coffee from various regions through a few roasters in America that specialize in single estate, fair trade coffee.

How do I drink my coffee? Well, I have a coffee grinder so I grind my beans fresh every morning and then brew it. Sometimes when I'm lazy I just use my nice steam/drip brew machine but when I have the time I'll do a full french press on my freshly ground coffee. No milk, no sugar.... (As some would say, I like my coffee in the way that I like me women... Strong, Hot, and Black!)

Good coffee that is freshly ground does not require any cream or sugar in order to taste good... It has a full flavor profile that is rather rewarding. If you want the names of some popular roasters that specialize in gourmet coffee or need some recommendations on coffee grinders/espresso grinders/Home espresso machines, let me know. I have spent quite a bit of money on sampling rare coffees and coffee preparation methods. (Including several Cup of Excellence winners!)

tl;dr -- Grind your own high quality beans and drink your coffee black!

I also drink Timmy's but sometimes we don't have the spare change so we put on a big pot of Folger's. Nasty.

I was mostly curious what the attraction to starbucks was and if I was the only one who really disliked their coffee. I used to make my own coffee and tried some different brands, not to the same extent as yourself though. At some point I didnt have the time anymore and went back to timmy's and they rarely disappoint. I've wanted to try a press though, have you used those single serve presses before?

Do you mean tea? Or coffee with tea? I've tried coffee with tea, it tastes pretty much the same as the coffee.

When I drink coffee, I put just a touch of cream in it and one sweetener. I can drink it black, and I do if it's a good coffee. Cheap coffees get doctored.

Most of the time, though, I drink tea.

I prefer Tim's coffee as well, or McDonald's even. I cannot drink Starbucks coffee

If I have to get a drink Starbucks coffee, I'll get a latte (soy, but meh) because their coffee is just so... burnt tasting.

I put one milk and one sugar in my Tim's coffee though ^_^ yumm

It's not coffee if you put milk or cream in it.

Keurig on class days, French press on the weekends.

We had a Keurig for a while, my favorite was Hazelnut, but there's such a wide variety of K-cups, it's impossible to pick just one.
We ended up selling it because it was only a single cup brewer and I like to refill frequently on a bad day.

If I'm on the submarine? Black.

If I'm not, I usually will spice it up as much as possible. This includes sugar, creamer, Italian syrups, other kinds of syrups, milk, cream, the list goes on. Me and wife my are very experimental. I've found my favorite is a rendition of Starbuck's Caramel Macchiato which is coffee, milk, ice, few pumps of vanilla syrup and about a 1/4 cup of caramel syrup slowly stirred in. Very tasty :)

Leaves are for brewing, not beans.

I like my coffee like my men... white and bitter!

I add enough cream until it matches my pasty pale skin. No sugar. Ugh, sweet coffee-drinks make me gag. I'm not a brand snob, Maxwell House is fine. :p

But tea, I could go on and on about how I like tea... Most mornings I have a giant mug of good ol' Earl Grey. Chai with milk is good in the evenings. But Turkish apple tea is the nectar of the gods, however I can only find it in one Asian grocery store in a town 2 hours away. :c

I also have made the switch to tea nearly entirely...

As to the K-Cups... I think those things are horrible!! Yes, they are better than most instant coffee... Yes, they are easy... But they do NOT compare to unflavored, high quality, freshly ground coffee. Not to mention all of the potential environmental concerns about millions of these little plastic containers showing up in landfills for years to come... :S

Anyone really into green teas that has a website that you order your tea from that you recommend? I've bought tea a few times now online and didn't care for the experience. (Once from Teavana... I wouldn't recommend them. Their tea just doesn't really taste like tea... Especially when one of their blends includes whole chunks of candied pineapples in it.. just not for me.... That and incredibly over priced!)

Also mel, I don't know what you're talking about... I do french press my coffee at times but I usually brew ~20oz at a time. (What I consider enough for just me. :p)

Tea doesn't have enough caffeine. Afghans really like their tea though, my mom goes through at least a pot a day. She gets some green tea from a persian store somewhere, if I knew the brand I'd tell you 'cause she seems to really enjoy it and she's been drinking that stuff since before I was born.

Also I was talking about one of these:

I wouldn't mind trying it with condensed milk either like in the video.
