Marriage is not a license to procreate. In today's world a lot of procreation happens outside of marriage. And a lot of married people never have kids. So yeah, no.

It certainly encourages it. Especially among the stupid humans.

Marriage itself does not encourage procreation. That's like saying that restaurants encourage obesity. Stupid people are going to have children whether they are married or not, as are smart people.

We don't live in the 1800s. Sex is not something that only married people do.

I'm going to get married when I'm in my late twenties and I'm on track to becoming partner at (firm I work) when I'm winding down from 80-100 hour work weeks.

Then I'm going to spend a fuck ton of money on my proposal, wedding and honeymoon and move to a gated community in a suburb outside of NYC.

But yeah, even as a staunch republican I think the gays should be able to get married. The fuck do I care?

Cool, I want to write my life story too. Here goes:

I'll focus on school until I have a PhD and some amazing publications that get the attention of someone at NASA, who hires me as a research scientist. Shortly after, I'll get shortlisted as an astronaut and perform experiments aboard the International Space Shuttle for the good of humanity. After doing that four times, I will then stumble upon a way to build a warp drive, just in time for when Star Trek first predicts warp speed space travel in 2063(?). Some crazy people from the future help me get the warp drive going though -- dunno how the heck they went back in time like that, but w/e. I will have statues and schools named after me because of it. I think a woman appears somewhere in this story... not sure though. As Yoda says: "So clouded, the future is..."

As a not-staunch "left-leaner", I also support gay marriage. The fuck do I care either?

I think that if you have no intention if getting married or you think that you're too young and you're 25+ then it's one of the things that you should make very clear to your partner early on in the relationship.
For me, the point of being in a relationship is to find someone I can't live without and get married and live happily ever after... So to speak. It's the values and such that I was raised with.
Spending heaps of money on a wedding, to the point where you end up in dept isn't the greatest way to start a marriage.

I'm all for gay marriage.
