Someone's getting a little mad eh? ;)

This is General CHAT/Discussion, not General Debate.
I'm allowed to make statements :') HAHAHAHA!

I think it's cute how you have so much faith in the legal system that you believe just because something is law, it's right. :)

Implying invoked emotion or sentiment does not take away from the original statement I made, as patronising and immaturely as you put it. I also don't buy the whole "It's in general chat, I can say any bullshit I want and not back it up". If you make an illogical or idiotic statement, whether it is, don't get defensive if someone calls you out on it. It just weakens your whole proclivity.

If you also find that funny, you obviously haven't grown up enough (I think only teenagers use the idea of laughing at a sentiment that isn't humorous as a term of condescend.)

Again, using the terms cute as a way of defeating someone's point isn't an affective tool, nor does it strengthen your own argument. I have faith in the legal and judiciary ways of most Westernised countries as they are built on centuries (in the case of the US) and millennia (in the cause of Europe) of legal experience, thought out procedures and the gathered intellect of millions of people a lot more intellectual and knowledgeable in these areas of expertise.

You also haven't even answered my question and immediately got defensive for no other purpose to cause an argument. I was genuinely curious at why you thought a court order was an example of victim blaming? Please explain. If you can't, don't make benign comments with no information very little understanding of a world beyond your small little bubble.

(Also, I don't believe all laws, especially between both countries in the UK and US are efficient, fair or correct. Just because someone has faith in a justice system, does not mean they do not have independent thought from the government. Maybe one day you'll realise that.)

Just to add, I have a great deal of experience in these situations, after all, it's my job.

    tldr.

Back to the Steubenville case, I recall recently there was a petition going around for the boy in the video to have his scholarship to OSU taken away.
    Anyone hear about that?

Also, there is a significant difference between Victim SHAMING and victim BLAMING.

I also feel the Steubenville girl was being shamed, but also, blamed.
She was being shamed because the majority of people who should be protecting her, were making her feel like it was her fault thus, shaming her.
Blaming goes hand in hand with that in this situation because she was also being told it was her own fault for being intoxicated, being a slut, being easy, whatever you can come up with, they said it.

Ps. Frizzle don't respond to me, I'm no longer satisfying your thirst for an argument, this entire post is directed at the rest of the thread :) (Aside from this portion obviously)

Hmmm... that blush faced, piggy-lookin', sweaty ass young man simply cannot contain himself over this fun-filled event. It's apparently a thigh-slapping 'yucka hyucka" jolly good fuckin' time even just talking about how dry an unconscious girl's vagina is. Wow. 13 minutes of "she's deader than..." and "they raped her more than...." jokes. Bwahahahaha a comedic genius. I forgot how funny rape is, when it happens to someone that isn't me.

I, too, can carry on and on for an obnoxiously long time.

Let this be a lesson to all you girls out there: try harder to not get raped.

If you do find that you've been raped or sexually assaulted in any mannter, try and come to grips with why it happened. Were you:

    1. Wearing clothing that makes you look attractive?
    2. Drinking any kind of beverage?
    3. By yourself?
    4. Female?

If you were any of the above, then the rape was your fault. Here is some advice to not get raped.

    1. Stop wearing clothing that makes you look attractive. Sure, it might give you confidence and a sense of pride in yourself, but if you look pleasurable in the eyes of a man, it is YOU who are committing an injustice. Through the ages, men have been taught that women are things men can possess, if they desire to. When dressing yourself, think, "What will men think of me?" and dress accordingly. If you want to be attractive, prepare to be raped, it's your own fault for being so appealing. A man's penis has needs that outweigh your safety. If you want to repel men, dress accordingly and prepare to be called a lesbian and get punched for being homosexual.

    2. Stop drinking. This includes non-alcoholic beverages. If you are at a party, and there is a male in attendance, there is a chance he will put something in your drink. Especially if you aren't dressed like a butch lesbian. The liquid in the toilet bowl is safer than whatever is in that punch bowl. To avoid dehydration at parties, don't go to parties. I sometimes don't even drink anything at home, because I have a brother and he is a male. That makes me suspicious.

    3. Stop going out alone. If you have a sister, make sure she's always with you, even if you don't get along. If you don't have a sister, hire a woman to be your sister (preferably a large, strong, hefty sort of woman). Make sure you live together and are never apart. When you go to the restroom, make sure she's watching your drink (although, you really ought not to have a drink). Watch her drink, in return. On the walk home, hold hands and stick to busy roads. It's harder to rape someone if they have a buddy, especially if she's gifted with the size and strength of Khloe Kardasian.

    4. Stop being female. Have a sex change and become a guy. If this is out of your budget, the best thing for you to do is to come to terms that you were born a female in a world where you are shunned for being weak, and also shunned for being strong. Realize your body is something that men have tried to dominate since forever, and every day people in power are trying to come up with legislation to control what you can and can't do with it. Understand that 'consensual' means something different to men than it does to women. (I believe it's Kobe Bryant's motto... "No means yes") You are never safe. Not on the bus. Not at the hotel. Even riding in a car... I mean, it's hard for him to rape you when he's driving, but he sure can beat the living shit out of you. I would say, "Aw, honey, it's not your fault." But it is. Because you're a girl.

Agreed. It's stupid to quote the law in regards to rape when conviction rates are so low, 97% of rapists will never spend a day in jail, the law is clearly on the side of the rapist.

But seriously, has anyone heard of this petition and whether or not it met it's required amount of signatures?

It's gotten a lot of signatures but they're still letting him keep his scholarship. Right now he's taking a leave of absence from OSU but when he comes back he'll still have a scholarship. It's disgusting.

School faculty, parents, and football fans were trying to cover it up for them, repulsive.
Also very sad for the victim.

The court was not proceeding, everything was already done with. They took videos of themselve taking off her clothes and raping Savannah, and they even posted it online. There was no doubt that they raped her so they just plead guilty and were given a deal. 50 hours of community service and sexual assault counseling, for rape, vouyeurism and distributing child pornography. Another part of the deal they received, a deal Savannah had NO part in, mandated that they had the option to have the entire thing expunged once they reached the age of 21, their names would be kept a secret because they're juveniles and she was unable to talk about what happened to her or name them. That is victim shaming, it's basically saying "ok we know you got raped. There's a video. But these guys aren't going to get any jail time for humiliating the fuck out of you, and you can't tell anybody about what happened or who did it. And if you do tell someone, you're going to be held in contempt of court and face jail time" not only is that victim shaming to the nth degree but it's also infringing upon her rights to freedom of speech. I wish people would get the fucking facts first before coming in here and regurgitating bullshit.

And what exactly does that have to do with Steubenville, or with diffusing the situation that has just occurred in this very topic?

50 hours of community service. That is sooooo unfair. It's not like they spent two days raping her, why should they be punished for two whole days?

Public outrage is the only thing that can come close to justice for her. It took public outrage for anyone to do anything to the murderer of Trayvon Martin. These ignorant boys might not spend a day in jail, but googling their names associates them with the rape they're guilty of, and nothing they do can erase that from the internet.

Savannah Dietrich has absolutely nothing to do with the Steubenville case. So you're right SL.

Mishelle - As far as them only getting 50 hours community service, that's repulsive. FIFTY HOURS.
Just another example of how our justice system has failed us.
