So far it seems that items valued at 100NC and under will appear on the tree whereas anything more valuable will disappear. I just thought I'd point this out because it didn't seem like it had been mentioned yet.
At least that helps with the "unfair" element, I guess.

My cookie is a dud... another day of Money Tree Cupcake + under 50k item. 
After that got 75 NC then 25 NC. Just opened another and got a Money Tree Capsule.
