Hello everyone :) I'm relatively new here, but I thought a critique thread might be useful for budding artists. About one month ago I was given an old, secondhand Lapazz tablet by a friend of mine (previously I'd used Inkscape for vectoring instead). While a better graphics tablet is preferred, I'm really excited and hope to improve in digital work. :) I wanted input and critiques from people here, mainly focusing on how I can improve. I'd like to work on my handling of criticism as well you see, I have a tendency to avoid any feedback (good/bad) whatsoever, so it'd be great if you could help! ^^

Please post your own works as well! Preferably in a timeline to show progression :3

I can't critique because I fail at art but I just wanted you to know I really love the second image and there is a definite improvement. (:
I suppose the only thing I immediately notice needs work is the arms/hooves. I am not entirely sure what the position is supposed to be.

Hehehe they look pretty good! I think the only thing which is off with the Pinkie Pie one is that because of the outline, it looks like her right leg is sliiightly in front of her mouth >w< Unless that's what you were going for~ Also!! It looks like you're just using low opacity whiles and blacks for highlights/shading... You should probably avoid that! Make use of that colour wheel since its there~ Check out this "guide" ^^

If you want to improve your art and all, you should totally experiment and draw what you're not used to drawing :3 Leaving your comfort zone is really good! It won't look perfect at first and it's going to take a long time getting out of that comfort zone and that's 100% ok. I used to draw nothing but terrible Kuitsuku/VanillaKitsune-esque "dogs" and to be honest it felt kinda... limiting? only being able draw a certain thing in a certain style. So I started experimenting with drawing humans and backgrounds and gosh, I don't regret it at all!! It feels like my art has grown a lot since then and that's a good thing :3

The legs/hooves are heavily stylised and are meant to look like that~ Normally I'd say style isn't meant to be an excuse for poor anatomy, but that's kind of hard to say about ponies that are purposely drawn to look like this

Also it looks like she's leaping up heheh

Thank you for the guide! I will definitely check it out tonight :)

In your opinion, what would be a step out of my "comfort zone" per se? Should I start practicing a specific thing?

Thank you so much for your help :D

You might want to improve on your line quality in the first one. When things are closer towards you, the lines should be darker and lighter for further things to give it more depth. Your second drawing is more stylized than the first one. I prefer the second over the first.

Stepping out of your comfort zone, means trying things you are not exactly comfortable like maybe drawing humans or environment instead of pony.

Unfortunately, I have no criticism about your work because I only paint and draw, line art is not for me, but keep going. :)
