How many Neopoints would you need to be considered within the top 1% of the NP playing population?
Who are the 1%?

Obviously there's no way to tell for sure, but I'd guess probably more 5m if you're not counting pets.

I would guess somewhere between 100M and 200M the higher end if you include shop stock and TP items as part of their NP count

There are items worth more than 1 billion.

You guys are seriously overestimating the wealth of the 1%.
There are a total of 191,575,756 Neopets users.* 1% of that 1,915,757. I highly doubt there are 2 million Neopets users around with more than 100m. Heck, I don't even think there are 2 million Neopets users with 1m in the bank.
*This figure includes all accounts, including non-active ones that have yet to be culled. If you want to exclude the non-active ones, the real number of active Neopets users will probably be a fraction of that number. However, even assuming only 10% of those accounts are active, you are still looking at around 200k users who will be in the "1%".

In my pointless opinion, you shouldn't really care about being in the top 1%. No matter where: in game or on an outside forum, no one will respect you for it. It's either pity or jealousy.

If I had to guess I would say 2-3 billion at least in on hand items and np (stamps, codestones used to train, and other consummables dont count) because 1% of 10,000 active accounts is just 100 and I only know 12 people in the English, Chinese, and Spanish speaking forums that have more than 10 billion in pure and assets.
Where did you get the info that there are only 10,000 active accounts?

It's a fair estimate because there's only about 10-12k people online generally, with it spiking to 15k during events and possibly weekends. I'm assuming a good 1k or so are bots or shells, which makes about 10k truly active accounts.

Since July 2013 I've been tracking the numbers hourly so the entries since then are an average over the day and should be more accurate whereas before that time they're just a randomly selected time in a day (hence the wider fluctuation). If it follows the same pattern as last year then we're just about to head into the quiet period.

20k is quite a bit though
Most Codex folks are probably still in the top percentage of rich neo-users.
