All I see is black.. is this normal?
It starts out that way, but you have to click the very small door on the first square. It's on one of the sides, I think it's always at the top? It confused me at first, too.

If you are at the beginning you should at least see a stairs and a yellow square. If you see the stairs, hover over it with your mouse, the tiny brown stripes are the doors, click on those.
