They say why in the first 5 seconds of the video, it's meant to be "a salute from the Swedish Youth to [their] European brothers and sisters". They're aiming their message to the people of other European countries so it makes sense to speak to them in their own language I would think.

Yes I heard that first 5 seconds.

Italy and Portugal are part of the EU and Europe. My question was why did they exclude some countries.

I'm guessing they wanted to keep it short and to the point.

The point of the video is trying to appeal to the "european youth" - in all countries in the EU.

    EDIT: Beaten.  :(

    See response above as well

the video did not appeal to all countries in the EU, only the ones who seemed convenient to them.

If you truly believe that then I don't know what else to say to you. I'm sorry.

Because there's like 25 different languages in the EU and it would take forever to include them all. :p They focused on the languages of the larger countries instead.

And there's a great deal of intolerance towards immigrants in the Scandinavian countries already. I've seen series 1 of The Killing where the nice immigrant teacher becomes the main suspect in the local community...

Larger? I'm sorry but no. Italy has a population of over 60 million, Spain has 45.8 million. They seem like pretty big countries to me

Besides, if they really wanted to appeal to all of EU countries they would of made the effort of no one being excluded and yes even if it meant a longer video. They blatantly ignored some countries that HAPPENED to be the countries in where non ''white-white'' people live.

AND they spoke Russian in that video, Russia is not a part of the EU, nor will it ever be.

The languages they used in that video from what I could tell were English (UK), Russian, German and French? Which also happen to be the 4 countries with the largest populations in Europe. ;) Are you suggesting that they only focused on 'white' countries?

Russia is NOT a part of the EU.

Please read my updated post, I edited it for clarity.

And YES that is what I am saying. They made a racist, anti-immigration, white-glorification and supremacy video. And that is painfully obvious.

Because there's like only 10 vladimirs living in all of Europe who speak Russian, right? Because when the USSR dissolved, everybody who spoke Russian went and packed their bags and hit it off to Vladivostok, right?

I figure you're more pissed about the fact that they didn't address Mediterranean people directly, not because of the overall racial connotations of the rallying call.

Russian is a part of Europe though and they said their message was to the European youth. ;)

Btw, apparently here's the full list of the languages they use in that video from YouTube:

    English
    Swedish
    French
    German
    Spanish
    Russian
    Finnish
    Icelandic

So yeah, Spanish is there too. :p There's no doubt they're an anti-immigration party, I didn't see any evidence of racism, white-glorification or supremacy in that particular video though and I don't know enough about their politics to know either way.

And btw, there's a hell of a lot of non-white people in pretty much all of those countries. ;)

    V Slow guy down there.

    English - Gustav Kasselstrand
    Swedish - Jessica Ohlson
    French - William Hahne
    German - Joakim Isheden
    Spanish - Vicente Muñoz
    Russian - Dennis Dioukarev
    Finnish - Alexander Gustavsson
    Icelandic - Omar Richter

I think if they were going for all of the "white" countries why wouldn't they go for Dutch as well? :/

These are the official languages for Europe, and while Russian isn't in there, it's still spoken by a number of people in Eastern Europe and it's the number one immigrant language.

I can see a lot more "white" languages in there which they chose not to include :p

    Bulgarian
    Croatian
    Czech
    Danish
    Dutch
    English
    Estonian
    Finnish
    French
    German
    Greek
    Hungarian
    Irish
    Italian
    Latvian
    Lithuanian
    Maltese
    Polish
    Portuguese
    Romanian
    Slovak
    Slovene
    Spanish
    Swedish

    EDIT: Again?!

You're wrong, It's only ONE of the things I am pissed about. Please at least go back and read ALL my posts before making a comment like that.

I am only arguing the language portion because some people brought it up. And I was arguing that they only spoke languages convenient to them. I said Russia was not a member of EU because if you read all the other posts someone implied they were, i was correcting them.

I know lots of people speak Russian in a lot of parts of Europe and I am NOT saying they should not of spoken Russian. Only that if they really wanted to address ALL of EU it would of been better to speak ALL the languages, but since the point of this video was racism they did not.

Russian is a part of Europe though and they said their message was to the European youth.  ;)

Most of Russian is an Asia actually. But they would not care about that part anyways.

EDIT: And I have said all I can on this topic, I really have nothing to add.

I don't like getting into arguments on the internet and this video made me so furious I let myself get sucked into it. But I do stand by all I said.

I mentioned Russian in the context of the EU because it's spoken by a significant proportion of people in the eastern countries. ;)

If they were to include every language of the EU in their video it would probably take like 15-20 minutes to complete and the whole point of internet advertising is for short, punchy messages in the hope that they go viral. A 15-20 minute video of strange Swedish people going on about anti-immigrant policies is not going to go viral. :p It's difficult to really call the video racist though because nothing they actually say is racist in there.

And I do know where Russia is. :p

You're angry at us like we made (or support the message of) the video  O_o

I don't even think the actual message of the video is particularly controversial, UKIP could have come out with exactly the same video tbh. It's just a general right-wing, anti-immigration message.

We should all care about Sweden's immigration policy, if they have fewer migrants burdening their economic system perhaps they'll be able to bring down the price of Kopparberg and I, for one, would be very happy about that.

I really don't see why you're so furious with the video, I'd be more upset about the site it's linked on.

The video isn't racist or really all that xenophobic toward anyone (and I think that's the point - they didn't want to make it too outrageous that it would immediately be dismissed).

It's not targeting any one group, or saying anything other than that they think the nations of Europe would thrive without the policies (including but not limited to immigration) imposed as being a member of the EU.

I know it's fashionable to jump on anything anti-EU and claim them as racists, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to call them racists simply from the points made in the video.

    ---

In my opinion, if we're ever going to prove that the EU is a good thing, we need to stop dismissing the opposing parties at first glance and start engaging them.
