Which way is she a' dancing for you initially? She's spinning to the right for me, but I can make her spin to the left.

Same, initially right, but I can make her go left as well. Things like this are so cool to me. ^.^ Have you seen the pizza one? I'll try to find it.

 

Found! Its harder for me to flip this one, but I did it.

That is too much for my eyes. I can flip both for a couple seconds, then it gets back to the "normal"

I was able to flip the pizza pretty easily, but it took a while before I was able to see the dancer spinning counter-clockwise.

I can flip the pizza. But with the dancer all I can see are nipples.


I saw a show on nat geo called brain games that had many neat illusions and mind/visual tricks. Pretty cool if your into this kind of stuff.

This is a natural phenomenon known as looming (and no, it hasn't been photoshopped):

To my knowledge, this occurs because the light which has reflected off the boat (which is beyond the horizon) has gone from the sea level air, that is really quite cool, to an area higher up in the sky, where the air is extremely warm by comparison.

 

As a result, the light is able to refract (more dense -> less dense medium) around the curvature of the Earth so that we can see things (e.g. the boat) that are beyond the horizon. But, our brains don't know that the light has refracted, so we see it (or, our brains interpret it) as being in the sky. Interesting, no?

 

 

It's not really an optical illusion as the others are (and it doesn't hurt my head. ), but it's still really interesting. For me at least.

i viewed the picture rotating clockwise no matter what i tried. it was so hard to see otherwise. tried to google it and i found this cheatsheet.

 

Want to see something really interesting? Try to watch the two "Cheat sheets" for this, and see if, by flipping your focus from one to the other, you can make the figure "jump" from clockwise to counterclockwise every half rotation.

@Irradium That's amazing! I had never heard of 'looming before'. I'd hate to see that if I had too much to drink. It sounds and appears similar to fata morgana illusion.

I don't get the pizza thing.

For me it starts out flipping forward, but you can make it flip backwards as well. Similar to the spinning girl.
