OR why did your parent(s) choose your name? Some names are unique and don't have a real meaning to them so sometimes it's nicer to hear why the parent chose it.

My name was going to be Grace, but one of my mom's friends told her that she wanted to name her child Grace (she never had a child). So my mom went with Emily because she thought it sounded pretty and feminine. It was also the #1 baby name for like 12 years in a row. (To be fair, I had it before it was cool psh) Apparently it means hardworking or rival or something.

Edit: Middle name is Anne because my great grandfather wanted an Anne in the family because he thought it sounded elegant.

Your turn. Gogo.

The way my name is originally spelled (Erin) means peace. However, the way I spell it doesn't have one since very few spell it the way I do (Airen).

I think my parents got my name from my grandfather (Aaron), and then just changed the spelling. They thought it would be easy to pronounce because the first three letters spell out "air" and the next two, the "en", sound like the word "in".

But no, people find it hard to pronounce.

    I've been called:

    airren (pronounced as air-re-in)

    aren (pronounced like are-in)

Ariel (Sunday school teacher for 2 years, never bothered to correct her)

Every time a teacher takes roll at the begining of the year, they pause on my name and I feel like Harry Potter. Since Flitwick paused and fell of his chair when calling roll, and Snape paused and then insulted him in the first year.

My first name, Woodson, is a combination of my dad being a woodworker for most of his life, as well as my parents having appreciation for woody allen and woody guthrie.

Middle name, Valentino, is mostly because I was born 4 days after Valentine's day, and my mom is Italian.

Last name is just a family name, and along with @Satsuki people find it impossible to pronounce, so I've been thinking about changing to my mom's last name, who kept hers.

Cara means 'dear' in Italian (which my family is). My middle names are my grandmother's names. My last name is a hard to pronounce Russian name.

My dad wanted to name me Paris, and that was what they had decided before I was born. They changed it when I started having a lot of health problems and was dying. When they were told that I was going to pass away and was on what was thought was my death bed, my grandmother kept calling me dear (Cara). So it was changed.

My first name (Nicole) means "victory of the people." It doesn't have any significance or anything, my mom just liked the name. She calls me Nikki most of the time anyway.

My middle name is Marie, only because my mom thought it flowed nicely and couldn't come up with anything better. She almost changed it to Noelle after I was born, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

First name means "defender of men". Don't know why I was called it. My mother wanted to call me Rachel...so not sure what happened there.

Maiden name is from the Scots Gaelic for "crooked mouth".

My mother and aunt wanted to choose a name that went well with my grandmother's name, Christine, which is my middle name.  So they settled with the name "Karla." (Eugh, I hate my name.)

My name is a German feminine version of Charles, which is kind of funny because my mother and aunt aren't into anything associated with Germany.

My first name (not actually Keil) doesn't have any real meaning. It is just a very common male name with a slight alteration. When my mom was naming me, she wanted to have a unique name for me rather than those from baby name charts. She added a frikkin' letter to a common name and ironically enough, my first name is uncommon-common among the African American demographic. Also since she was a law professor, she didn't go deep into chemistry or physics enough in her own education to realize that my first name happens to be a unit of measure.

My middle name is a mispelling of my father's first name meaning peaceful ruler. It's also the the name of nine kings of Denmark over the past 500 years, alternating each generation with the name Christian, but I doubt my parents or father's parents knew that upon naming us.

My last name is so badass that I prefer not to post it here because when I introduce myself to people, they automatically remember my last name for years at a time.

My mom WANTED to name me Aphrodite, but I had a great-aunt who was like no, you aren't naming your kid that. (My middle name came from her first name, lol, and the first name is super duper popular for the year I was born)

So I'm Jessica Elizabeth. Jessica means "Rich. God beholds". or something, and Elizabeth means "My God is bountiful;God of plenty." My last name is translated from a Native American word into something white people could pronounce.

My mom calls me Niki most of the time, too. Unless she's angry. My dad came up with it. Apparently from a Prince song about a hooker.

My last name is a fruit. Had all kinds of nicknames in middle school.

    Keil's last name is Dingaling.

My coworker named her daughter "Jizzelle". Heh. heh.

My mom WANTED to name me Aphrodite, but I had a great-aunt who was like no, you aren't naming your kid that. (My middle name came from her first name, lol, and the first name is super duper popular for the year I was born)

My mom wanted to name me Hurricane. That would have been very fitting, I think.

I never got a clear reason why my biological mother chose my name.
Dad (adopted by my grandparents) suspected that "Alex" (my middle name) was after a friend of hers that died in a motorcycle accident.

I'll definitely have to ask next time I see her (relatively soon). Got me curious.

As for the actual meaning behind it...

    (According to BabyNames.com):

    First: Christopher - "Christ-bearer"

Middle: Alex - "Defender Of The People"

Surname: Goforth... doesn't really have a meaning. According to Ancestry.com: "Probably an Americanized spelling of German Goffarth, a Lower Rhine variant of Godefried (see Gottfried), or an Americanized spelling of the Dutch cognate Goeffoet." I'm both German and Dutch so... yeah. Do know this though. My ROTC instructor LOVED my last name: "Go forth and conquer" was my personal favorite saying of his.

If names have power then I certainly feel like mine is filled with it.

I imagine if we lived in the "days of olde" I'd probably have been an actual Knight or Soldier. Perhaps I was in a previous lifetime... confused-smiley-013.gif

My middle and last name together sound like a woman who used to be the Queen of England but was executed *whistles*

My parents wanted a stereotypical American name so I wouldn't have my mom's issue of no one pronouncing or spelling her name correctly. They kept the ethnic in my middle name. I hated that, always wanted my middle name to be my first name.

When I was born, my Step-Dad said I should be named Graham. My Mom said "That's stupid. I like Jeremy." I think she was right.

Christopher was picked because it "flowed well."

And I picked up my father's last name at some point in late elementary school.... it's an easy to spell traditional Scottish name. Before that, I had my step-father's last name... and nobody in his family has any idea where the hell it came from except that they inherited it from their parents... ("Emm... No, it's not an initial... I'm not being mysterious...)

Can I just use this as a template? Because you are living my life!

The way my name is usually spelled (Jenna) means white wave. However my mother changed the spelling to Genna. She named me after my great aunt. She didn't think anyone would have a problem with pronouncing it either. But no. No one really gets it their first try. I've been called GEE-na, Geh-na. Gem-a (I dont mind this one and I don't correct it) and I mean Every time someone reads my name before hearing it. Every teacher at the beginning of (and often throughout) the school year, doctor appointments, interviews. Any situation where I have to spell out my name for someone writing theres always a bastardized G hastily made out of a J, or if they're typing it's: backspace backspace and a comment like "G. huh. thats different." Now that I'm an adult whocares. Sometimes if I'm feeling wild I'll lie to someone when I first meet and they forever believe my name is jenna.

In the 4th grade a substitute teacher paused roll call when I said "it's (Jenna)"  to tell me that G makes a Guh sound in english and my Mother should have known that when she named me. I stood up infront of the class and fired off: Giraffe, Gentle, Gem, Genesis, Giant, GYMCLASS. That was also the first time I'd ever noted an adult comment on my red hair. I've had really bad substitute teacher juju ever since.

Greek meaning is 'pure'. Latin is 'dear'. As far as why my parents chose it, no idea. They liked it? xD

They almost named me Sarah, I'm glad they didn't know. I like my name.

Funny story about my younger sister though, my parents let my older sister pick her first name and let me pick the middle. Her middle name is Leia, named after Princess Leia. I was a pretty rad 6yo, not gonna lie. :lol2:
