I think they have way too much money invested in the site to let it go down without a fight.

money is in their branding and merchandising
i thin k their website is dead weight for them ![]()

What exactly is their branding and merchandising?
Why did JumpStart want Neopets in the first place?
Posted 26 March 2015 - 10:10 AM
None unless they completely overhaul everything to appeal towards the social media generation (basically, somehow turn the site into an app or a series of apps). The "technology overhaul" David Lord was talking about in that Vice article seems to suggest that they may.
There's no profit in running a web-based game anymore. People who play Facebook games and apps generally don't care about text-based games like Neo.

If they do revamp Neopets and make it into an App, that would be great but I do not see how they can incorporate the amount of items and everything else in this game into an App.
I think an App might have a place but I would like to see Neopets turned into an online game like Final Fantasy or Warcraft. Play online must be an option somehow.

A part of me wonders if they're letting Neopets as we know it die when in reality working on Neopets 2.0, a much more up to date site, in the background.
Only diverting resources to 1.0 in the event of near-cataclysmic glitches that absolutely cannot be ignored.

Neopets 2.0 was when Viacom took over.

Neopets 2.0 was when Viacom took over.
Is this neopets 3.0, then? Or some other number, like neo 2.5, since JS can't seem to fix the site or make any change without breaking it.

Neopets 2.0 was when Viacom took over.
They may have took over the business end, but they left things essentially the same.
When I say 2.0 I mean a complete revamp of the site.
But if you want to be technical... 3.0? Or 1.5 since it's going ass backwards at this rate? lol

I think Neopets could make a comeback. It's not impossible, it's just a matter of competentence and a willingness to put resources in revamping a 15 year old site.
I'm really trying to prevent myself from posting the "one eternity later" transition screen from Spongebob right now.
But from what has been seen so far, it doesn't seem like there are many competent people running the site right now. I mean, the negg festival wasn't activated for hours after they said it was (given that no one could find Topsi even after tons of users searched the places JN now has links for), there's the fact that dice-a-roo and other games are broken now, which happened after they tried fixing something (i think it might have been the lag), their app wasn't awarding prizes until recently...ect.
They've got a lot to do to make me see them as competent again.

I don't know... They seem pretty confident in their abilities if their senior staff photo is any indication.
I mean look. Several of them even have cigars. That generally means serious business is afoot. :|

One of them even has a full suit on! I'm convinced! Go well dressed monkeys, go!

Considering JS didn't change TNT before or after the move, it doesn't bother me now that they laid off most of TNT. They are supposed to know how all this works and solutions to these problems and yet they can't stop anything from falling apart. It is like they call themselves car mechanics but can only change tires, change the oil, and top off the windshield washer fluid.
We can only hope JS decides to force the remaining (and maybe fresh) TNT staff to rebuild the site from the ground up like Flight Rising is doing.

Presumably, JS bought the site for a reason. I think no matter what happens to the site itself (i.e. becomes an app with no website, etc) Neopets will exist in some form since there's some value to the brand. I do agree with everyone else though that browser games are not the hottest thing at the moment, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Neopets in a new form like an app.

Very slim! UL's aren't working, BD isn't working, nothing is working.

I think they were interested mostly in the mailing list, and maybe the brand itself but not the website. They said they laid off everyone except programmers (I think). Did artists get laid off too? I don't mind slower updates, but i'd like the contests to be back, like the PPL and Featured pet n stuff I loved those. ![]()
I would gladly update the contests for a few neocash, but idk if they're legally allowed to do that.
Anyway, if the number of players keeps dropping they can just run Neopets on a pentium 3, hire a hobo as admin and pay him in booze.

Based on the current state of the news, you know how it looks like someone who has no idea about neo wrote it as they keep saying that plushies will be in the toy shop, all the spelling errors, and how it isn't funny or too interesting anymore, you know how Comstar used to write the news (she's gone, which is an indicator they let content/artists go), the content team/artists were also laid off. They kept the programmers and moderators though.
I think they bought it because they wanted the userbase (no matter how small) and could make money off them, in the form of NC purchases, and in-app purchases from Ghoul Catchers (and whatever else they decide to make). They might think if they fix up the site, they'll get more users, which means more money.

I havnt played neopets in a long time but recently got back invested out of boredom. I didnt realize how laggy the site was.
Playing something like cellblock on a new account for the trophy takes forever.
I'd like to see it get updated become faster but I like they bought neopets pretty much for the license pump out mobile games, toys and to make a few more shit neopet console games.
