I never tried this event, but if it's similar to the Altador Cup one (I guess it is, 700 NC and daily items), you do get all the items of the earlier days.

CORRECTION: Apparently one can! Though another chunk says you can't get the bonus prizes unless you start within three days of the event, so you couldn't get the Eventide box if you started today.

Yes, you will be able to join the case and solve clues on days that have passed. Simply click “view hint” from the case file list to start.

 

I participated in the NC Kidnapping Caper, why didn’t I receive a bonus NC prize?

 

There are three ways to get a bonus NC item prize in this event. It’s possible you just weren’t eligible for that specific bonus prize. There are three chances at a bonus NC item prize with this event shown below:

1. Activate a case file within the first three Neopian days of the event. There will be three bonus NC items.
2. Solving a part of the mystery by completing a whole case file. Once you’ve finished that particular file, you’ll have the option of choosing a bonus item from a selected list of items. Yay!
3. Solving the entire case with all three files. For being fantastic, you get one more bonus prize. Enjoy!

This one is for the Eventide Box. You can still buy the files, and if you bought all three, you will get the bonus.

 

The only bonus that is not available anymore is this one, if I read it correctly:

May I ask a question that might be noobish? You mentioned the backgroundt trading for 24 gbcs (which the internet tells me is gift box capsules). How do you trade those when they're NC Album items? I thought those couldn't be traded. If I misunderstand, please enlighten me! (Went off to university, get smart, come back to neopets, feel dumb. HA!)

The capsules act like any normal NC item, you trade them with gift boxes (those also comes from the gift box capsules, hence the name). Technically you are gifting someone an item and he or she gifts you an item, it doesn't happen simultaneously.

all the items were ugly.

Except the golden shower, and a BG or two.

 

It seems the artists are getting more and more lazy or can't come up with anything new and interesting.

I thought a couple of the backgrounds were pretty (the eventide one and the garden path or garden gate or something) but I didn't think it was 21 real life dollars worth. I can get three grey goose on the rocks at my favorite townie bar for that kind of money!
