I have no clue, but someone had to eat one in order to find out if it could kill them.

I think it is more likely that people measured the amount of cyanide experimentally and then matched it to the known cyanide lethal dose instead of people chewing cherry pits. I could be completely wrong because people can be pretty dumb.

I gnaw on stone fruit pits all the time. I vaguely recall breaking through to the center a couple of times too. I guess I should be thankful I'm still around.

Not only would it take 680 kg (~1500 lbs), but you'd have to ingest it all within about 15 minutes. You'd pass out long before you could smoke anywhere even remotely close to that amount.
