My mom almost spelled my name Qineighya after her friend Qiana and her sister Taneighya but my grandma wasn't having that shit at all and decided it was going to be spelled Kinaya. Honestly I'd rather have a regular shmegular name which is why i go by Mishelle most times.
What were you almost named?

Well...my adoptive parents had already decided on my name before they got me: Airen. I'm not sure what my birth mother almost named me however, but the name she gave me was: Irina. And my adoptive parents wanted something that sounded a bit close to my Russian name while also honoring an older member of my family. I believe my mother's grandfather, my great grandfather was named Aaron, and well, they wanted to spell it differently than the female version is normally spelled: Erin. So they spelled my name: Airen. Which is impossible for some people to pronounce.
So far I've heard:
Ariel
Arwen
Adrian (not sure where that came from considering that sounds nothing like Airen does at all. Arwen is kind of close at least)
Air-re-en
Arr-ren (like when pirates say "Arr matey" and then "ren" at the end)
Air-re-ren and Arr-ren are the most common wrong pronunciations I've heard. I let my Sunday School teacher call me Ariel for a year because I just stopped caring.

My mom wanted to name me Mishellay after my dad Michael until he pissed her off and she decided she wanted to name me Qineighya.

I feel you. After having my name mispronounced for 25 years I stopped giving a shit. Some times just to be a bitch I tell people just to call me Becky.

My mom wanted to name me Grace, but her friend started saying that she wanted to name her child Grace. So my mom chose Emily instead, and her friend never had children.
If I was a boy, I would have been Evan.

I've always been Rocket, whether I was going to be a boy or girl they didn't care. Rocket is gender neutral

How do you pronounce that anyways? Is it Roe-Me? Rom-e? Rom-my?
My mom always wanted to name me Jonathan, ever since she was little and her younger brother was born - she wanted to name him that but since my grandfather wasn't very good at English he came back with the name John.
If not Jonathan I think my mom had David and Ryan in mind.

ok but really though I didn't have a name until they found out I was a girl, then my name was instantly decided. Mom's best friends middle name as my first name just spelled different, and mom's first name as my middle name.

My aunt and mother never really wanted to name me anything else but Karla. They wanted a name that went well with my late grandmother's first name, Christine (which is my middle name). I honestly would prefer having another name. Hell, I'd rather be named Christine. I just don't like the sound of "Karla."
Makes me feel like I've committed a sin for some reason.
On another note, my parents were close to naming my brother Elliott "Langston." *cringe*

My parents gave my sisters and I all feminine first names, and Biblical middles name.
I've asked before, but they swear there weren't any other names.

My mom was under the impression that she was going to have a boy. She was ready to name me, "Samuel". On a side note, when she asked me what I wanted to name my younger brother, I answered "Scooby Doo." ![]()
