I've always wondered this.

Is this based on anything, like account retrieval info or something like that?

None of us work at Neopets, so we really don't have any concrete evidence on the inner workings of TNT/JS. Pretty much any answer you get is going to be speculation.

Viacom probably kept better track of that.

JS? I would be surprised if they even knew HOW to do that.

And yet TNT is freezing rather prolifically right now...seemingly at random.

I think it's either random or they're freezing suspects of cheating in the AC

JS go off reports to freeze people.

Many "returning" users with UC pets get frozen within a few days of stepping onto the PC.

I doubt JS care anymore about the Ip addresses

    This would make sense.

Hm, wouldn't keeping text data such as IP addresses be really simple anyway since it doesn't take up much space?

I guess I understand if they go off user reports that they don't really need it, but it never hurts. Or perhaps they get rid of it if it contradicts their actions (i.e., banning a legit user).

I think they still do care about the IP adresses from my Altador Cup experience.

I think most of the current icings apart from hacking are due to players looking like a cheater and being reported.  Once again if you go on the boards to chat make sure you at least look legit.
