Okay, so, this is all @Kate's fault lol. She showed me the site she was using. So I'ma post my progress here. I tried pixel art once before and it was much harder (I was using a different program then idr what it was called). This one is far more forgiving. Please keep in mind, while I'm an artist, I'm new to pixel art, so be nice. E.E This is really so I can keep track of my work and progress.

 

 

Day one

Project 1: A marble

(Just getting used to the tools and messing around.)

To be fair, I'm using a great program! Piskel. And I'm not exactly new to art period. Just pixel art. Anyways, thank you!

It really is so easy to use and very forgiving in my opinion. I'm currently working on a moon.

Yeah, it shows! But getting smooth circles and good-looking corners are really tough in the transition to pixel art, and none of your stuff has the characteristic wonk of a beginner.

That's a fair point. I honestly understand because the program I used before it was basically impossible for me to get smooth lines, corners and circles. So, I definitely think the tool being used can make an immense difference. I really appreciate the compliment. <3 

My moon is a scribbled mess. lmao. I wanted to do something a bit more complex but I'm sort of struggling deciding how to shade. I'm gonna keep at it and we'll see how it goes.

I'm really proud of the birb! I didn't even use any reference materials. I just tried to go with a derpy cartoon look.

Thank you! Piskel is really easy to use so if you still wanna try, it's pretty powerful.

I haven't gotten to work on anything yet today. I'm hoping to do at least one pixel thingy a day to get gud.

Everything is in the choice of the colors, so for your next try, I suggest you pick a nice color palette you like and work around that! You'll see the difference!

Yeah. I'm still learning how to pick colors, not just in digital art, but other mediums as well.

How do I resize my images to be small like yours? And how did you make a circular shape like that?

On the right side of the screen, there is a resize option. For Codex awards, the image size needs to be 25x25. If you want it to be that small, I recommend starting that small, instead of working with 32x32 and resizing after you've already made the sprite. You lose a lot when you resize versus just starting in the smaller size. 

As for making a circle, just zoom into my marble and look at the number of pixels on each side and use the mirror tool (so it makes both sides identical).
