It's far more likely that you'll just get a simple stat change due to it having a higher probability in the code, but there is certainly also the potential for species change, color change, etc. Personally I think it's super worth it, but it's kind of a long game rather than an instant gratification.

My chomby just turned "Oil Paint" coloured, as someone has only recently started playing again thanks to lockdown I didn't even know that was a colour. Looks cool though .

You are correct. Sadly, there is not a way to cheat the lab ray.

One advice is to keep your pets level to at least 10 and above. Cause usually when it cannot decrease your level, it will end up as no change.

Does it only impact up to level 10?? I had seen somewhere that it can zap pets anywhere from 1-50 back to 1, but maybe that’s outdated?

I could have sworn there used to be a way to time the lab ray to try to get specific outcomes but maybe that was a fever dream; I remember seeing like a table somewhere a long time ago. I have noticed that with the cookie, if I lose stats on the first zap, and then instantly rezap, I lose more stats. If I wait about 10 seconds, it'll increase stats, and if I wait longer I have increased chance of colour or species change. But I could also be seeing patterns that don't actually exist and created my own superstitions lol
