well on the finals on my school debating competition, we've got a theme: Piracy is not good at all. And, my klaz was on the opposition, which means we have to prove that piracy is good, at least to a certain extent.. After a intense 'verbal fight', we manage to pull it off at last and become the champ :D

Piracy is good. Not all of us have the money to go out and buy everysong we like or every program that we need.

So therefore I think piracy is good :)

to a certain extent yes, but wad if the products you were buyin comes from a company that is struggling?? dont you think you should give the company some 'help' or credit for making the product/software by buying the legit stuffs?

Bad. All that's going to happen is that less and less films, music, software, games etc will be made as companies profits fall. But the major reason for piracy is tha fact that products are way over priced.

But piracy is a bad thing.

whoever says it's good is most likely on the line to being a cheap bastard all their life

one of the best bands I know is completely broke, and it isn't helping them one little bit that their album is floating around the internet a lot. And it spreads more and more and less people buy it, they're going to have to quit being musicians soon.

Big companies will start to corrupt too, they need that money

    star, your ignorance disgusts me

Good. Capatialistic Darwinism. (sp, I know, I know) If a company wants to spend time guarding a product its their own business, for instance the new dave mathiews cd, you cant upload it to your MP3 player (or computer) (I think I read this in newsweek, or else online), and hey, if they really want to stop people pirating their music, good for them. If other companies DON'T put that protection on teir CD, then theyre basically saying "we dont care enough about stopping you from doing this, we'ed rather you not, but other than a few lawsuits were not going to stop you". If they don't care, why should I? Another example, Just last week I bought a copy of the new star wars movie, which, I wouldnt have gone to see in theaters because I just never get to it, but I would have bought on DVD just because I like to buy DVD's. Now, while Lucasfilm (or whatever  its called) pauses the release of its DVD to help their movie sales, Im stuck waiting months to see a movie I cant wait to see that everyone is talking about. I know by the time they release the movie, ill have already ruined the ending for myself by accidently readong a spoiler somewhere. IF, the day before I bought this copy from my friend for $5, I had seen SW ep3 at CVS, I would have bought it for the full $30 its sure to cost. However, theyre to wrapped up in making a profit, they forget the people who just wanna see the movie. It wouldnt have mattered to me the price of the movie, as long as I got it RIGHT THEN. Besides, its just a 3 cent piece pf plastic, and if I can get it for $5 rather than $30, hell, I think you know where im going with this. And oh, for the little bands or whatever, I think its better to get their music out there, I mean no one will pay $20 for an unknown band, but if its floating out there on the net people might listen to it, heloing their rep, and possibly future sales. Anyway, the last time I illegally downloaded a song was a year and a half ago, Iron Man from black sabboth. I stopped down loading songs because its possiblt to get viruses from non-pay sites...its all about darwinism.

    ^^^^^^cheap bastard^^^^^^^

I like old-fashioned piracy with ships, parrots and eye-patches, I'm staying neutral on the modern piracy though because it is good for the people who usually buy the stuff in the short term, bad for actors, musicians etc. It may also become bad for people who buy the stuff in the long term because less people will want to become actors, musicians etc because there will be less money to be made.

But you can use iTunes and Napster to buy music from your own home and it's not piracy.

I think to a certain extent its good. If you download music and you like it, then go out and support the band/artists by buying their CDs. If you download a movie and like it, go buy the DVD or watch it in theatres. Did you guys know they are now testing CD Burn/Copy Proof?

The only good thing that piracy does, is send a message out that products cost way to friggin much.

Any movie/tv show I've pirated, I've always bought anyways. I've bought every family guy, south park and so on DVD and always will so I don't get how I'm harming anyone...cept the greedy commercials :)

TV shows? What? They get their money from the TV channel they're aired on and that's a fixed amount. It has nothing to do with games, movies etc.
