Now if there's one thing I know, it's that almost everyone has some kind of useless knowledge stored in their brains. I'm not saying that knowledge is necessarily useless, but for the most part not used in everyday life.

What's an amazing/shocking/useless/baffling/unusual fact that you keep hidden in the dark corners of your mind?? Share it with us and we can all "learn something new everyday" :p

Going first, I'd like to share with everyone this fact:
Abraxas wass a term used by 2nd century Gnostics to describe their 'god'. Some historians even believe that this is where Jesus Christ came from. Abraxas can be translated to Roman numerals, which added together equal 365. Coincedentally, this god also supposedly commanded 365 other gods, each with their own virtue (therefore representing the 365 days in a year).
The word 'abracadabra' is derived from the word 'Abraxus'.

disclaimer: I could ramble on forever about all things related to medicine and word derivations. Yep, I'm a nerd :whistling:

So.... who's next?

    Name of Judeo-Christian God

Nobody knows it! We know the consonants, but not the vowels. So we really don't know HOW to pronounce it. The ancient Jews knew it, but when they got to writing things down, they just wrote down the consonants.

SO, where does Jehovah come from?

"Some people render the four-letter Name as "Jehovah," but this pronunciation is particularly unlikely. The word "Jehovah" comes from the fact that ancient Jewish texts used to put the vowels of the Name "Adonai" (the usual substitute for YHVH) under the consonants of YHVH to remind people not to pronounce YHVH as written. A sixteenth century German Christian scribe, while transliterating the Bible into Latin for the Pope, wrote the Name out as it appeared in his texts, with the consonants of YHVH and the vowels of Adonai, and came up with the word JeHoVaH, and the name stuck." (I knew this already, but grabbing it from JewFAQ.com, because they explain so much better than I can. =D )

    Now you know!

    Cogitu Elgo or Ergo Sum

This is a saying in latin that... it means. "I think, therefore I am" Back in the day, philosifers were all puzzled by this wuestion, what if we are controlled by other people, like we are puppets. That was a big question a longgg time ago. So this 1 dude who was sitting in a tower was puzzled by this question, and there language was very hard to read, and he said "Cogito, ergo or elgo sum". Thats the answer, we are not controled by anyone else. We think, therefore we are not controlled by anyone else.

    Now you know.

Don't drink sea water! A male whale can skeet up to 300 gallons of his stuff while trying to mate with his pair.

To up their reputation as an animal friendly country, Italy recently banned goldfish bowls. (for those of you that don't keep fish, a common comet goldfish requires about 20 gallons of well filtrated water and has a life span of up to 10 years) They are not allowed to be imported or sold at any store within the borders.

    I think that's awesome.
I am a goldfish lover myself. I've owned all kinds.. currently I just have a comet and a lionhead. But it pains me to know that so many of these lovely fish are kept in a tiny little fishbowl. Most people think that their fishies are happy, but they're not. It's like keeping your dog in a kennel all the time.

*shrugs* I warned you guys that I'm a nerd ;)
