Lol same here. I've even toned down on the amount of sinning I've been doing. Not that type of sinning

Heh, don't worry Darren. Then does that mean i'm going to die young?. Cause i havn't remembered my dreams for months now...Also i've fainted, and whenever watching video's in school they make me feel faint too...
I don't think forgetting dreams is any kind of life/death indicator.
I guess you didn't really follow the gist of the argument

Well you know how my brain works with science >.<Heh, don't worry Darren.

I guess you didn't really follow the gist of the argumentBut never mind xP
But your thought did seem pretty convincing

Oh, and it's one of mine, because I figured that would annoy as few people as possible...
Kill it if you want, but it'd be interesting to see if anyone's views have changed since... April?

but seriously, once our brain shuts down thats it, you dont even know your dead, you dont face the blackness, you dont see blackness forever, your just gone, nothing left at all, you cant think you cant do anything its over and you dont even get to look over your life again, its hard to explain but i think that showed it

I was in hospital, before an operation to have a portable electrocardiogram implanted in my chest. The doctor needed to take some bloods, so she put a canular (sp?) in my arm, inside of the elbow as usual, and took the bloods. Thing was, she opened the canular before the vial was properly inserted, so I had a venous bleed everywhere.
Now, this wouldn't have been so bad, had I been in a bed. As it was, however, I was in a chair, which did not have a collapsing back, so when I passed out a few minutes later, I couldn't be laid flat.
I don't know how much you all know about fainting, but the reason the body does it is to make blood flow to the head easier, when the brain is deprived of oxygen. So my brain was obviously oxygen deprived for longer than it should have been, and I died.
And guess what? I was resuscitated immediately.
I suppose you want to know my experience of that instant? Well, perhaps you don't care, and of course this is my belief so I can't discount the fact that it could be my mind showing me what I want to see (especially having espoused the power of the dying brain all those months ago), but I saw images flashing before me. But by gum they were going fast, totally indecipherably, though I am pretty sure they were images, not just flashing and dancing colours. More pertinantly, it was absolutely terrifying. Exactly as I'd expect living an eternity in an instant would be. My brain did not expect to come back from that, and timelines crashed together.
Like I said, it may just be my mind showing me what I wanted, or a misinterpretation based on my beliefs, but to me, it's at least a shred of evidence, irreproducible as it may be.

To me, that's what a soul is, an unanalysable component of our existence.

I said it was inexplicable.
Putting it on a pedestal as the work of God is an explanation, woefully flawed as it may be.
Can you not be happy with the fact that it exists? Why does it need a reason?

We die, our bodies disintegrate and thats the end of it. No floating magical soul flys out of our carcasses and no light leading to a mystical beyond appears with rainbows and fluffy clouds.
In a way we live, I suppose. Our bodies fall into the earth (assuming youre burried, whatever if not.), perhaps organisms eat it, and they give birth, and the organisms die, eaten by another animal and so on and so forth.
Whatever.
It's the only thing that keeps me happy about dying. Knowing I wont be completely gone. And I suppose in a way we all live on in memories.

I mean that's like Newton watching an apple fall from a tree and having some person pass by and ask "Why did that apple fall?" and Newton responding, "Can you not be happy with the fact that they do fall? Why does it need a reason?".
You miss the point.
Until I am satisfied with evidence to prove a theory, I am content with the fact that something just happens.
I can come up with as many outlandish explanations for why apples fall, but until it was proven by scientific method, I would never quote one as fact.
Interestingly enough, though, I don't believe we have anything like enough understanding of... well, anything... to even begin a scientific analysis of the soul.
So for now, I am content that it is simply something I believe exists.
